Norfolk Virginia. Fer several months Mrs. Alice Barren, who resided in Gospert, has been laboring under the effects of a fit of insanity in duced, it is believed, by her excessive grief at the death of her mother, who died last April. In consequence of her unfortunate condition she has been kept underdese surveillance by her family, but yesterday morning about 0 o'clock she eluded notice and while the rest of the household were eating breakfast she went into a closet and climbing upon a chair fastened a rope around her neck, which she had previously tied te a shelf, knocking the chair from under her feet. The family missed her at the table and search being made she was found in a dying condition. A physician was summoned and everything possible was done te resuscitate her, but she died in a few minutes after being cut down. The THtens. New Yerk Sun. Mrs. Elizabeth R. Tilton and her mother Mrs. Jeanna Merse, continue te live to gether at 381 Macen street, Brooklyn. Mrs. Tilton is provided for by her husband Theodere Tilton. who continues te live apait from her, and Mrs. Merse receives a support from her husband, a . li. sieree, president of the Union Ferry company, from whom she has been seprated for a number of years. Mrs. Tilton's two sons, Carrell and Ralph, continue te live with her. The former is studying for the min istry and the latter is just about te begin school life. Misses Florence and Alice Tilton remain in Stuttgart, Germany, where they are studying music and art. Their father sailed a few days since te pay his annual visit te them. Mr. Tilton's former home in Brooklyn is rented, and the occupants occasionally held spiritualistic seances here. Mrs. Tilton leads a most secluded life. m About Horseshoes. Te pick up a horseshoe is an indication of earning luck, as wc are norsesheerd by ancient and reliable authority. Dexter could pick up a horseshoe about as lively as any one, and sec what luck he had in vited te beard at Benner's luxurious stable all his life free of expense. But it isn't always lucky te pick up a horseshoe, as a man out in Nebraska realized the ether day. lie didn't observe that a horse was nailed te the shoe, and when the owner of the beast, accompanied by a posse of his neighbors, overtook him, they strung him up en a tree just for luck. Never hunt for a horseshoe. The best way is te station yourself by some much traveled read, the read te ruin, for in stance, and wait for a horse te come along and cast one. If in tee much of a hurry you can have one cast at the nearest foun dry. The mere nails there are in the shoe you have found the greater your !uck will be, particularly since the great advance in nails. By the way, it is a singular fact while iron gees up, Horseshoe Falls at Ni agara. It is net generally known that a horse shoe will cure dyspepsia. A horse planted one in the pit of a man's stomach who was suffering from that painful disorder, and he never complained again. They should be planted in the spring, however, te de any geed. A red het horseshoe carried in the pantaloons' pocket has been known te cure rheumatism. Cine. Sat. Nighi. NERVOUS DEBILITY. Te Nervous Sufferers The Great Euro pean Remedy Dr. J. II. REV. A. F. HAUL, jcVCtdeaw Executer. Brandy as a Medicine. The following article was voluntarily sent te Mr. II. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart'w Old Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi cian et this county, who has extensively used the Itmndv referred te iu his regular nractiee. It is commended te the attention or these ar tlictcd with Indigestion and Dyspepsia. BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. This new much abused Alcoholic .Stimulant was never intended as a beverage, but te be used us a medicine of great potency iu the cure or some or the destructive diseases which sweep away their annual thousands et victims. With a purely philanthropic motive we pre sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe cially these alllictcd with that miscrable ills ease Dyspepsia, a specilic remedy, which is nothing mere or less than Brandy. The aged, with feeble appetite and mere or less debility, will find this simple medicine, when used properly, A Sovereign Remedy erall their Ills ami aches. Be It, however strictly understood that we prescribe and use but one article, and thut is REIGART'S OLD BRANDY, Sold by our enterprising young friend, II. E SLAYJIAKER. This Brandy has steed the test for years, and has never failed, as far as our experience extends, and we thererere give it the preference ever all ether Brandies, no mutter with hew manyjaw-breaking French titles they are branded. One-!eurth or the money that Is yearly thrown away en various impotent dyspepsia specifics would suflice te .buy all the Brandy te euro any such case or cases.
