A Lever of Skakspearc.
One of the most noted characters en the
border twenty years age was old Jim
Bridger, of Fert Bridger, in Utah. On one
occasion he came te New Yerk. He did
net like the narrow down-town streets with
high buildings en each side, and complain
ed that he had once lest his way in " Dcy
Street Canen," and been rescued with
difficulty by the police. He liked the
theatres, and expressed the utmost delight
at a performance of the "3Iidsummer
Night's Dream." He had no clear idea
who Shakspcarc was, but conceived and
developed the most extravagant admira
tion for him.
Returning te the fort, he sold stock and
supplies te emigrants and ether travelers
asiu time past. One day a man wished te
buy some excn.and Jim said he could have
any except one yoke, which he had made
up his mind te keep at all hazards. In the
morning a messenger came te say that the
man wanted this yoke, and none ether.
"He can't have 'cm, "said Jim. "There's
no use talkin'."
"Well, he wants them, and is just
a-waitlng for them," said the messenger.
" He's a-scttin' there, rcadin' a book call
cd SlinlcsDCtLrc
" Eh?" yelled Jim, jumping te his feet.
" Did you say Shakspcarc? Here, you
give me my beets."
He ran te the corral.
"Stranger," said he, "jest give me that
book, and take them oxen."
"Oh no," said the man. "I only
brought the book te read ou the way. I
will give it te you."
" Stranger," said Jim, resolutely, "jest
you take them oxen, and give me that
book." And se the man did.
Jim hired a reader at fifty dollars per
mouth, and listened te Shakspearc every
evening. All went well, until one night,
as the reader came te the proposed mur
der of the princess in the tower, Jim
sprang from his seat, with blazing eyes,
and yelled, in tbundcr-tenes, "Held en
there! Jest wait till I get my rille, and
I'll sheet the scoundrel !"
As one of his old "partis" justly re
marked, a sinccrer compliment was never
paid te Shakspcarc.

Brandy as a Medicine.
The following article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. II. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Keigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian et this county, who has extensively used
the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe
cially these atllicted with that miserable dis
ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which is
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with feeble appetite and mere or
less debility, will find this simple medici e,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and use
but one article, and that is ,
KEIGART'S OLD BRANDT,
Sold by eir enterprising young friend, 11,
E
SLAlJUAlvblt. xins
Brandy has steed the
test for years, and has never failed, as far
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference overall ether Brandies,
no matter with hew many jaw-breaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would suffice te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or
cases. In proof of the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
in cases of Dyspepsia, we can summon nuui
hers of witnesses one case in particular we
cite:
tA hard-working tanner had been afflicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ter a number of
years; his stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used JIcGranu's Keet
Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new,
S reached at times, and in his discourses often
eclaimed earnestly againstall kinds of strong
drink. When advised te try
Relgart's Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful etrccts in
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te toiiew our auvice. tie
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he was a sound man.with
a stomach capable of digesting anything which
he chose te eat. He still keeps it and uses a lit
tle occasionally; and since lie lias this medi
cine lie has been of very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician.
