The New Yerk Seed Leaf Market.

The heat, the excitement caused by the
Cincinnati convention, and the lack of buy
ers for new tobacco, made it an cxtremey
dull week. Nevertheless, holders of "i'J
Pennsylvania keep a stiff upper lip, which,
by the way, is said te be a most inexpensive
mode of looking courageous, and a very
healthful exercise tee. Helders of '7'J
Connecticut leek upon their investments
as exceedingly safe. "While prospective
buycis are imbued with the Idea that in
the '79 Pennsylvania there is an abundance
of useful and fine tobacco which will net
leave the market very quickly, their
views regarding the '79 Connecticut
are different, or almost contrary, and they
therefore new turn their attention te that
crop. Several transactions in '79 Connec
ticut were reported this week at from 20
te 23 ceuts, for running, but a close inqui
ry did net yield sufficient verifications te
warrant us noting them here as bona fide
transactions. A great deal of caution is
preserved this year by the few buyers of
new tobacco. Ment contracts reserve the
right te rejection by the buyer should the
inspectors' samples turn out unsatisfactory.
Fiein our special Lancaster report it will
be seen that generally the lower grades of
the '79 Pennsylvania crop, seconds and
fillers, have settled into a ret and that re
packing is the order of the day. Hew
much this damage amounts te has net been
made clear. But if it reaches auy great
amount, holders will be forced te raise the
price of the wrappers te make up for any
deficiency. Whether anybody will be will
ing te pay higher prices for '79 Pennsylva
nia, is a question which we de net care te
argue te-day. Certain it is that when that
crop has gene through the sweat, the de
mand will net be as in former years, main
ly for running lets, but for selections.
With the increasing reports of the splen
did condition of the new growing crop
and no indications of the revival of the ex ex
eort tradc.au enormous accumulation of
leaf in this country seems unavoidable.
