Yesterday this church was re-opened and
re-dedicated te the -worship of Ged.and the
day will be remembered as a grand one in
her history. After several months of re
pairing, remodeling, painting and cleaning,
tins chinch was finally finished during last
week and new presents a very handsome
appeal ancc. The improvements having
already been noticed it lemains only te
.sav that the church new is one of the neat
est and most beautiful in the city and its
ineuibciship is te be commended for the
earnest weik and the sacrifices they have
made, and congratulated upon their sue
cu--. The improvements, net including
the basement, weie made at a cost of about
Si. GOO, and of this amount about $000 was
raised by 20 of the mcmbeis fiem outside
patties, thiii leaving :i balance of $1,000 te
bj laised yestciday. Large as this amount
appealed te people aheady taxed consider
ably for ether impievements nude it was
all pievided fei by cash and subscriptions
j esterday. The last $100 was partly taken
by p n ties who had subscribed befeic with
the understanding that they would be
yiven time te raise it among their friends.
This success was Lugely due te the inde
fatigable efleits of Rev. Thes. E. Fcinly
of Philadelphia, who fully sustained his
luputatien of being the best debt raiser in
the cenfeience.
In the meining $100 was subscribed in

Wan en a life member of St. Paul's church,

unanimous election of Maleehi Hay, of
Pittsburgh, chairman. 3Iessrs. Black,
Scott, Cowan, Stengcr and Land is were
named as a committee te select subordi
nate officers. Tlie delegation will meet
again at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
The crowd here is immense, and the
weather almost suffocating. Thousands
of strangers are pouring into the city
hourly, and giving additional animation
te the scene. The Tilden letter of with
drawal and Seymour's repeated per
emptery declination eliminate them from
the contest, while Judge Field's strength
does net seem te have the necessary " bot
tom " te last, and is probably super
ficial. Bayard boomed along in a prom prem
ising fashion yesterday, and August Bel
mont, the rich Xew Yerk banker, and
Gov. Wade Hampton, of Seuth Carolina,
are according powerful aid, but the strong
opposition te him manifested by the Til
den people will be apt te prevent his nom
ination as well as that of any Xew Yerk
man, while Hendrick'schauccsarccripplcd
by the same influence.
If a union of the Pennsylvania delega
tion could be effected en Bayard, Randal1
or Hancock a contingency that does net
new seem at all piebable one of them
could be nominated. If Randall's friends
shall be se indiscreet as te make him a
leading candidate at the outset, thereby
antagonizing ethers, he will be effectually
killed ; his only chance is as a dark her.se
and he must be kept blanketed.
The dissensions in Ohie's delegation and
a disinclination te make that state the pre
liminary battle ground in October will be
enough te beat Payne, and you need net
be surprised te .see such a name as McDon
ald, of Indiana sprung en the convention
and bear oil' the nomination, although
everj thing new is purely cenjectinal and
the situation, even with Tilden and Sey
mour out of the way, has net crystallized
sufficiently te render possible anything
