MONDAY EVENING, JUNE 4, 1880.
The Talue of Manure and the Price of
Land.
Germanlewn Telegraph.
A correspondent of one of our exchanges
makes a novel preposition, that the price
of manure is usually in a ratio vritli the
price of land ; and that knowing one we
may be able te form an estimate of the
ether. He puts it in this way : If land
is one hundred dollars an acre, we may be
tolerably sure we cannot buy manure for a
dollar a horse lead, as we generally can
when the price of land is below that fig
ure. And he gees en te show that when
land gees te two hundred dollars an acre
the price of manure is pretty sure te be
two dollars a horse-lead.
As we have said this is a novel way of
putting things : but it is a preposition which
the experience of everyone teaches is true
in enough of instances te lead us te accept
it as correct. 13'eing true, it gives us a
new idea of the value of the manure heap,
much as we may have appreciated it be
fore. The manure question, as it is put te us
at the East, is seldom met properly.
Many geed farmers, it is true, take in
fully what it means. We knew of soibe
who if they have net made a cent in cash
by one yeai's operations, but can show a
large heap of manure in the barnyard,
regard themselves as fully paid for all
their labors ; yet these excellent persons
when they go te rent or buy a farm, often
quite overlook the difficulties or facilities
of procuring mauurc.
It is a question whether the success of
many men at farming or gardening, sup
posed te depend en their unusual industry
or skill, is net rather the result of a lucky
accident of convenience as regards manure.
Certainly it is a question of the utmost
importance and should never be lest sight
of, and especially by these, of whom there
are many every year, who go into farming
without much previous experience. "We
have known many fail just here. All knew
that crops will net grew without manure ;
but if we have te pay $1.50 or $2 a lead for
it, wheu the land is net worth one huudrcd
dollars an acre, it is like paying twenty per
cent, for money. AVc cannot de it long.
And yet it is a singular statement that the
mere land is worth the mere we can afford
te pay for manure te fertilize it ; but there
is no doubt of its truth. Of course thcre
is a time when land is worth se much that
it does net pay te crop it at all ; it is only
of value for building purposes. This is
another matter. But when it pays te crop
high-priced land at all, it will pay te ma
nure it at almost any cost; which it will
net de in low-priced land-.

Brandy as a ledicine.
The following article was voluntarily pent te
Mr. II. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Keigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practicing physi
cian et this county, who has extensively used
the Hrandy referred te in his regular practice.
It i commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, hut te be
used as a medieineef great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe
cially these atllicted with that miserable dis
ease Dyspepsia, a specitic remedy, which is
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with tceble appetite and mere or
less debility, will liml this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. He it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and usy
but one article, and that is
REIGARTS OLD BRANDY,
Sold by our enterprising veung friend, II. E
SLAYMAKER. Tliis Hrandy has bleed the
test for yeai's, and lias never failed, as far
us our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Hrandies,
no matter wilh hew manyjaw-breaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia spccilics would suttlce te
buy all the Hrandy te cure any such cese or
cases. In proof of the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon mini
bers of witnesses one cese in particular we
cite:
A hard-working farmer had been aillicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ter a number of
yeai's; Ills stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly no appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used McGrann's Heet
Ucer. He is a Methodist, ami then, as new,
preached at times, and in his discourses elten
declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong
drink. When advised te try
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In his cese, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful eirects in
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our udvice. lie
used the Hrandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he was a sound man. with
a stomach capable of digesting anything which
lie chose te eat. He still keeps it and uses a lit
tle occasionally; and since he has this medi
cine lie lias been of very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician.
