The Lancaster ClaasU Meeting in Quarry vUle, Saturday Merning.-Chwu was opened with singing. Prayer by Rev. D. W. Ger hard. After calling the roll, Elders Ames Hol Hel linger and 8. L. Dellinger appeared and took their seats. All the elders who were net present at the opening of classis gave their excuses and were severally excused. Owing te sickness in the charge of Rev. C. S. Gerhard he was compelled te return home this morning. He was there fore excused, and Rev. G. W. Snyder was substituted as chairman of the committee en licensure and examination, and Rev. Win. H. II. Snyder te preach the sermon en Sunday morning instead of Mr. Ger hard. The report of the committee en over tures was received, taken up item by item and adopted. The committee en minutes of classis made their report, which was received and taken up, and considered item by item. Pending the consideration of this report the hour of adjournment having arrived, it was extended te 11:30 in order te hear the report of the treasurer of classis. Prof. Jehn S. Stahr, Rev. Jes. II. Dubbs, D. D., and Elder Apple appeared te take their seats. Classis adjourned with the doxology and benediction by the president. Saturday Afternoon. Classis opened with singing and prayer by Dr. J. II. Dubbs. The committee en minutes of classis continued its report. The committee en examination and licen sure reported that the examination of 0. II. Struuck made a favorable report and rec ommended him for license. Mr. Struuck came forward and signed the constitu tional formula, whereupon he was licensed te preach the gospel. D. B. Snader, a beneficiary student, re ported, and aid was granted him for the coming year. Rev. James Crawford was received from the West Susquehanna classis. Authority was given Rev. D. B. Shuey te organize a Reformed congregation in the borough of Strasburg. Permission was given the congregations at New Haven and Bainbridge te dissolve if they think proper. The committee en minutes of synod re ported that Lancaster is apportioned $900 for the cause of missions, which amount will be raised by this classis and paid te synod during the year. It was resolved te lift a collection during the year for foreign missions. Classis preceded te the election of a treasurer, which resulted in the choice of Rev. D. B. Shuey. Millersville was selected as the place for the next annual meeting of classis, en Thursday evening, June 9, 1881, in the Re formed church. Classis adjourned by repeating the Lord's Prayer and the doxology. Saturday Evening Services preparatory te the holy communion were held. Rev. J. A. Peters preached the sermon en the text 2d Peter Hi., 18., "But grew in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. ' The religious services were conducted by Rev. Samuel Kuhn and Dr. E. V. Gerhart. Sunday Morning. -The communion of the Lord's Supper was celebrated. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. II. II. Snyder, of Harrisburg, en the text St. Jehn vi., 51, and St. Jehn v., 40. The ser vices were conducted by Dr. J. B. Shu maker, Prof. J. S. Stahr and Rev. D. B. Shuey, and the elements were distributed by the different ministers in attendance at classis. The church was filled te its ut most capacity, and at least one hundred and thirty persons partook of the com munion. The services were all of a very solemn and interesting character. Afternoon. The Sunday school assem bled in the church and the exercises were opened with singing, and prayer was offered by Rev. Mr. Andersen of the U. P. church. Addresses were made by Rev. S. Brown, of Marietta, Rev. J. P. Moere, Millersville, Liccntate O. H. Strunck, P. of of of Lancaster, and Kev. L. Jr. Zinkban, Manheim. Gee. W. Hensel presided, Ex- cellcnt music was given by the school. Evening-. missionary meeting was held. The church was again crowded. Dr. E. V. Gerhart presided. Addresses were delivered by Rev. D. W. Gerhard, Dr. J. Shumaker, Rev. S. Sweitzer, Dr. J. II. Dubbs and Elder Wm. H. Seibert,of Ilar risburg, the treasurer of the beard of home missions of the Synod of the United States. All the services were interesting and highly enjoyed by the large audiences. Monday Morning. Classis convened at 8 o'clock. Opened with singing, and prayer by the president. Minutes read and approved. The parochial report of Rev. F. A. Gast, D.D., was read. Several papers read were appropriately referred. Lichliter was received as a member of this classis. The call of St. Luke's mission te Rev. Lichliter was referred back te the consist ory for correction. The presence of Rev. Dr. Stewart, of Colerain Presbyterian church, was an nounced. Classis adjourned by repeating the Lord's Prayer and the doxology. Afternoon Session. Opened with prayer by Dr. Calvin W. Stewart. The substance of following paper ettered by Rev. D. B Shuey was adopted : "That Lancaster classis be divided into two Sun day school convention districts. The Western or Harrisburg district being com posed of the three Reformed churches of Harrisburg, Hummelstown, Hanover, Elizabethtown, Maytown, Marietta and Columbia. The Eastern or Lancaster dis trict shall consist of Reamstown, Bethany, Manheim. Lancaster, Millersville, Willow Street, New Helland and New Provi dence. That committees of three frm each distict be appointed te make arrange ments for holding convention during the present classical year. " Sunday schools of 150 or ever te have three delegates ; from 100 te 150, two dele gates ; under 100 scholars, one delegate, together with the pastors." The committees te carry forward the foregoing are for Harrisbure district : Rev. J. H. Pennypacker, Gee. W. Snyder and Elder W. H, Seibert; for Lancaster dis trict : Revs. D. B. Shuey, L. F. Zink han and Elder Mengle. The following resolutions were offered by Rev. D. B. Shuey, and unanimously adopted:. Retched, that this 'classis recognizes with thanksgiving the harmonious con clusions reached by the Peace con vention at Harrisburg last November, and classis is happy te record the fact that our ministers and charges, immediately after the pastoral of the commission was sent te them, made diligent effort te carry for ward all possible means te promote peace and harmony in our church. "Resolved, that we rejoice in the fact that our benevolent contributions have largely increased, and the religious life is mere healthy, and brotherly love prevails mere generally, and we hope that greater results will still fellow. Te this end we pledge our energies and resources." Resolutions of thanks te the Quarry ville people for their generous and 'hospitable entertainment of classis and te the Read ing railroad for the reduction in fare te members of classis, were also passed. The committee en finance made their report which was received and considered. The committee en the state of religion reported that Lancaster classis has mem bers 3951 ; non-confirmed 1797. Infant baptisms, 252 ; adult baptisms, 100 ; con firmed, 314 ; by certificate. 104 ; communi cants, 3370; dismissed, 59; erasure of names 24; deaths, 113;Sundayschoel scholars, 3180.' students for the ministry, 2 ; contributions for benevolent purposes $4,363.73 ; congre gational purposes $21,055,30 ; number of ministers, 27 ; number of congregations, 38 ; charges, 19. The report of the committee en missions was read and adopted. In this report the charges of Marietta and Maytown were united into one eharge and $200 appropri ated te the same. The committee te carry forward the above were Dr. E. V. Gerhart, Revs. Jno. G. Fritchey and A. B. Shenkle. The classis adjourned te meet at 7J o'clock by singing the doxology, and bene diction by Dr. Gerhart. The committee en the installation of Rev. C. S. Gerhard, of Columbia, was read, stating that they had attended te their duty. The committee appointed te visit and report en 4he condition of the Willow Street church made their report, which was discussed and privilege given te Rev. Shenkle te go into the several charges and endeavor te secure subscription for the purpose of discharging their church debt. After reading the minutes classis ad journed sine die by repeating the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, singing tbe dox ology and benediction by the president.
