LANCASTER JDAILY INTELLIGENCER, TUESDAY ML.Y 18 JL880 Lancaster intelligencer. TUESDAY EVENING MAT 18, 1880. Tiie Negro in Politics. A St. Seu's Ttmes reporter has inter viewed Professer W. H. Bell, a colored man of considerable intelligence, who has spent some time in Washington recently, and who professes te be posted as te the views and feelings of leading colored men. According te his statement a conference was held in "Washington at "which were present Senater Bruce, of Mississippi, Wears and ethers well known, and the conclusion arrived at was that " the time had come for the colored vote te demand recognition." And hew that is te be done is thus stated by Prof. Bell : " We can see no better way for us te assert ourselves than te ask the second place en the ticket. Unless that is granted it is very question able where the negre vote "will stand in the coming election. Many leading negrees think of advibing the colored men te abstain from voting, They de net design te ad vance Democratic principles, se they ad vise this course as the best thing for the colored men. The idea is te let the white men fight their own battle." That course, if pursued, would certainly defeat the Re publican ticket, for as Prof. Bell truly says : " The negre is the balance of power in Ohie, and without his vote that state can net be carried for the Republicans." The Cincinnati Enquirer says : " A de cided majority of the white voters of Ohie are Democrats. Nobody denies that. The colored voters give Ohie te the Republi cans whenever they carry it. The Repub licans can net elect a president without the solid colored vote in Ohie, and yet the colored voters arc net even accorded a delegate te Chicago. We believe they have one alternate." Ne wonder the lead ing colored men think the time has come for the colored vote te demand recognition. "Women Never Think ! If the crabbed old bachelor who uttered this sentiment could but witness the intense thought, deep study and thorough investiga tion of ueuicu in determining the best medi cines te keep their families well, anil would note their sagacity and wisdom in selecting Hep Kilters as the best and demonstrating it by keeping their lainilies in perpetual health, ata mere nominal expense, he would belerced te acknowledge that .such .sentiments arejiasc less and false. myl5-2wd&w De net hit a man when he i- down.
