LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER. TUESDAY, MAY 11, 1880. ,f him te some people ; some believe in him ; ethers fear him and some are courting his future aid ; all in all, he is te-day the lead ing candidate. The field must combine te beat him. Will it de se ? Eberly has no great strength except what he gets from the bargain in his be half which Jack lliestand and Frank Esh leman made with Jiis broth jr at Cincinnati in 1870. They would like te shake him. But he will net shake. He has some followers in the solid Dutsh districts, and, if the Bull King would centrem him, might poll a geed vote, but its leaders fear he is foredoomed te defeat and they de net want te tie te him and go down with him. They declined te entertain the proposi preposi tion of some of his friends te put $2,000 into a peel, If his candidacy is persisted in lliestand and Eshlemau must stick te him, hut they f jar he cannot win. The Bull King will be divided and conquered. It will be a scrub race and Jehnsen will win. II. C Brubaker has a stronger support, en his own merits, te start with, than any of the ethers. He is the best man for the politicians te rally around te beat the fa vorite with. They are beginning te rally. Several of the strongest politicians in the county have encouraged him te come out. They run very " solid " districts. His father's old reserve forces will join in. His own personal and professional stand ing are elements of success and the chances aie that by next week he will se success fully concentrate the opposition te .John .John .Jehn eon in his behalf as te make him the lead ing candidate and te win a rattling vic tory. Win. I). "Weaver is going te 'surprise the people " with his vote. He is in the field te stay ; te win if he can, and, if net, te poll such a vote that next time he will have vantage ground. lie has been get ting his work in with the school teachers and directors and the old Nermal students. Watch out if he does net come te town with 1,200 or 1,300 votes. Newpher will get a fair sprinkling of re spectable votes all ever the county, with comparatively heavy lifts in Millersville and Marietta. A shrewd politician, estimating en a ete of 10,000, says that if the election came off te-day Jehnsen would get e,000, Davis 2, 000, Eberly 1,800, Weaver 1,000, Brubaker 1,500 and Newpher ."00. If Brubaker is taken up as the man te beat Jehnsen he will get :S,500, Jehnsen 2,500, Eberly, Davis and Weaver an average of 1,200 each and Newpher about 400. lnr Senater. The straightest, cleanest light is for Senater in the lower district. Myliu lias the prestige of success, the backing of the Bull King, a popular name, and many friends. Kciuechl is making the best light of his life and has all the anti-Cameren sentiment of the lower end in his favor. He is gaining strength and his friends are sanguine, but te win he must leave Lan caster with 500 majority. His friends ty he can de it if his opponents "de net put money into the city."' If l'er Assembly. The issue in the lower end is meie iielin itc en the Legislature than in the upper district. There are only live candidates, all having had experience as candidates. Each pretends te be "going it alone," and if the combinations arc made they are net yet acknowledged. Gatehell is of a feather that suits t'ae Bull King better, and Laudis is pretty ceitain te have his cause espoused by the Heg King. Peeples and Brosius have mere natural strength than cither of them, and it need surprise nobody te sec the bitter both elected. Ames L. Eshlemau has a taking name and a fair lield in the eastern end. He will largely increase his vote of 1S7S. In the upper district there arc mere than a dozen candidates, se that a "scratch' may easily win an unexpected result. Or dinarily the old members would have the advantage, but Gaulz is weighted with his bad record en the riot bill and harassed enjiis Hanks by Harvey Kayinend's candi dacy. The Bull King, in all honor and gratitude, must help Gautz and hew can they go back en such a " best worker' as Kaymend'.' D.I). Courtney has made a vigorous canvass and has a large business acquaintance. The very general vote he will receive may pull him through. C. L. Ilunsecker occasionally gets through. Jehnsen Miller is the kind of a man the Jfetc Em would like te sec rewarded. Snadcr will poll a geed vote frem.the Con Cen Con estega te the Welsh Mountains. Eberly will be one of the leading candidates. Any stiff combination may win in this district, and when such a one is made the Intkli.i gkncbr will announce it. Anybody who wins will net beat Courtney by a large majority. Prison Injectors anil Peer Din-ders. Little interest is taken this year in the prison and peer house management, as the J leg King new has control of both, and even the election of Bull King successors te the outgoing Bull Kingers would net ehange the present condition of things. Fer prison inspectors, however, the Heg King will support Geerge Urban and Cal vin Carter; for peer directors, Martin Kreider and either Nisslcy or Jac.G. Keller. Miscellaneous. Ed. K. Martin, of this city, and Abr. Kline, of Manheim, will be elected "curbs-tone" delegates te Chicago without seri ous opposition. B. F. Eshlemau will make a vigorous effort te be continued as county committee chairman and the ?ew Era will fight him with intense bitterness. On the question of instructions there does net seem te be any doubt that the bulk of the vote will be cast for Grew for United States senator and for Blaine for president. About 8 o'clock this morning Eugene Stinten, coffee roaster en East King street, having returned from his daily route, was unloading his trade wagon, when his mare, annoyed by a loose bridle, tore lese and dashed through the yard. Mr. Stanten sprang te the gate and closed one side of it, but the team dashed through the ether section of the gate before he could get it shut, Mr. Stanten narrowly escaping serious injury by a stone which resisted the violence with which the gate was swung toward him. The mare ran out Grant alley te Ann street and smashed t!ie wagon against a lamp pest and hitching pest at Mr. Ames Hendersen's stable. She then ran en te her stable without further damage than the wagon's destruction. Washington Borough Items. Shad fishing languishes, waiting for a rise in the river Wm. ' Light Up. Complaint is made that the gasoline street lamp en Mulberry street a short dis tance north of the railroad bridge has net been lighted for two weeks past. The at tention of the policemen has been called te it, but either they have net reported it or the lamp-lighter pays no attention te the notice given him. There are complaints from ether sections which it would be well for the lamp-lighters and policemen te heed. There is a complaint that the court house clock has net been lighted up for two or three nights past. Supposed Mad Deg en the Rampage. These are the best finished and most durable In the market, and in recommending them te the trade this company (whose representations are always reliable) claim ler them the following merits: ' The base of the Gerham electro-plate is of nickel silver. The silver-plated wares made upon this base combine all the excellence of the solid sliver goods except the intrinsic value of the silver itself. One of the remarkable features of the process of electro-plating is perfect accu racy and delicacy with which the finest line of the engraving or chasing traced en the surface of the nickel base Is reproduced en the surface.ef the silver coating. Thus all the excellence of workmanship which has earned for the company its reputation as makers et sterling silver goods is made tributary te the production of unsurpassed electro-plate. The quantity of pure silver deposited en the finely finished base exceeds that upon the best of foreign plate. This ware would be excellent and take a fine polish without a coating et silver, yet upon it Is laid a silver suriace which will if net abused last mere than a generation. The object is te produce plated ware which shall have all the beauty of the solid wares. This high grade et ware is un- distingulshable from work in Sterling silver. Its pattern, ornaments and workmanship are made equal te these for which the Company's Sterling Silverware has been se highly com mended. Te these conditions is added the undefinable air or style which distinguishes the genuine in everything trem the work el imitators and which naturally transfers itself from the Sterling te the plated ware." The following article was voluntarily sent te Mr. H. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart's Old Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi cian of this county, who has extensively used the Brandy referred te in his regular practice. It is commended te the attention of these af flicted with Indigestion and Dyspepsia. BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant was never intended as a beverage, but te be useii asameiucmeei great potency 111 the cure of some of the destructive diseases which sweep away their annual thousands of victims. With 11 purely philanthropic motive we pre sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe cially these afflicted with that miserable dis ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which is nothing mere or less than Brandy. The aged, with feeble appetite and mere or less debility, will find this simple medicine, whim used properly, A Sovereign Remedy erall their ills and aches. Be it, however strictly understood that we prescribe and u but one article, and that is REIGART'S OLD BRANDY, Sold by our enterprising young friend, II. E SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the test for years, and has never failed, as far as our experience extends, and we therefore give it the preference ever all ether Brandies, nematter with hew manyjaw-breaking French titles they are branded. One-fourth of the money that is yearly thrown away en various impotent dyspepsia specifics would sulltce te buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or cases. In proof of the curative powers et Reigart's Old Brandy, In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon num hers of witnesses one case in particular we cite: A hard-working farmer had been afflicted with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of years; his stomach would reject almost every kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread, and as a beverage he useil McGrann's Beet Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new, preached at times, and in his discourses often declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong drink. When advised te try Reigart's Old Brandy, In his case, he looked up with astonishment, but after hearing of its wonderful effects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he at last consented te fellow our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him an appetite, and before the second was taken he was a sound man.with a stomach capable of digesting any tiling which he chose te cat. He still keeps it anil uses a lit tle occasionally; and since lie has this medi cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician. H. E.
