HWELLKB IN THE IISD OF DEATH.
Ttie linnet In the rocky dells,
The moor-lark In the air.
The bee among the heather hells,
That hide my lady lair :
The wild deer browse above her breast ;
The wild birds raise their breed ;
Bnt they her smiles of love caressed, .
Have left her solitude t
I ween, that when the grave's dark wall
Did first her form retain ;
They thought their hearts could ne'er recall
The light of Jey again.
They theught.the tide of grief would flew
Unchecked through future years;
But where la all their anguish new.
And where are all their tears?
Well, let them fight for honor's breath.
Or pleasure's shade pursue t .
The dweller In the land of death
Is changed and careless tee.
And, If their eyes should watch and weep
Till sorrow's source were dry,
She would net, In her tranquil sleep,
Beturn a single sigh !
Blew, west wind, by the lonely mound.
And murmur, Summer streams
There is no need of oilier sound
Te seethe my lady's dreams.
Emily Brente.
The Biggest Liar.
Bishop Selwyn was a benevolent and
kindly spoken man, as well as a great and
famous one. He interested himself much
in the peer, especially in miners. One
day coming en a company of the latter, he
heard them talking in a very animated
way, se loudly that he said te them : "'My
friends, something seems te interest you
all very much ; I heard your voices quite
in the distance ; may I require what it is?"
Te which they replied : " Yeu see that
copper tea-kettle there ? We found it, and
were just saying that the one who could
tell the biggest lie should have it." "Oh,"
said the bishop. "lam sorry for that, I
hope you will never again tell lies. 'Tis a
fearful habit, and se unmanly. Why, I
never told a lie in my life." Whereupon
the four miners shouted in ene breath,
"Give the governor the tea-kettle," all of
them thinking his assertion "the biggest
lie " they had ever heard.
Samuel A Hewitt, Monteray, Mich., writes
that Dr. Themas' Eclcctric Oil cannot lie beat
by an j- medicine for coughs and colds, and for
rheumatism. It works like a charm. It lias
been thoroughly triad in this place and is in
great demand. Address all orders te n. B.
