FEIDAY EVENING, APBIL 16, 1880.
TO A BLUEBIRD.
O thou that vrear'st the livery el the sky
(And Tightly robed ler thy se hopeful song),
Would, that I might thy spring-tide lay pro
long ;
Pour forth as secmest thou te Mm en high
A breath as sweet ! But, ah ! tee weak am I.
Plume as I may upon a rarer gift,
Watching the weird cloud-phantoms chasing
drift,
And en the grass in shadow-waves flew by,
Or fed with fancies by the rustling flrs.
The varied Jey of which the mind partakes.
And still the greater been whence faith
awakes
Yea. though I should attempt my very most,
'Tweuld be el song alone but as a ghost.
Compared with thine which new my breast se
stirs.

Registering Women Voters in Bosten.
We are indebted te a " staff correspond
ent" for the following anecdote concern
injl tlic recent registration of female voters
iu Bosten. Its accuracy is vouched for by
an eminent artist one of tlic most distin
guished stone cutters of the Hub.
Enter old lady of a certain age.
"I wishte register, sir."
" Your name, please ?"
" Almii-a Jane Simpsen."
"Your age?"
" IJcg pardon."
"Your age?"
" De I understand that I must give my
age ?"
"Yes, miss, the law requires it." .
"Worlds, sir, would net tempt mc te
give it ! Net that I care. Ne; I had as
lief wear it en my bonnet, as a hackman
does his number ; hut Tm a twin, and if my
sister has a weakness, it is that she dislikes
any reference made te her age ; and I could
net give my own. because I don't wish te
offend Iter," Editor's Drawer, in Harper's
Magazine for May.

Astronomical Notes.
These of eurcitizens who arc early risers
were afforded or would have, if the sky
had been clcar-thc opportunity of seeing in
the eastern heavens thismerning.a phenom
enon which is always beautiful and in
teresting, the conjunction of the brilliant
planets Jupiter and Venus. Strictly speak
ing, the true conjunction, when they are
en the same north and south line, took
place yesterday at 1) p. m., but they were
then further apart than en the morning of
the 10th, when their distance is less than
the apparant diameter of the moon. The
planet -Mercury, which is se hard te find en
account of its proximity te the sun,
may also be seen very near his two mere
brilliant companions a little further te the
west. All three planets arc moving cast
ward, but Venus much faster than
cither of the ethers. Jupiter passed
Mercury en the 8th. Venus passed Mer
cury yesterday, and is in conjunction with
Jupiter, which is in conjunction with Mer
cury again en the 18th, the latter planet
having quickened its pace in the meantime
and overtaken the mere steady Jupiter.
Saturn is very unfavorably situated for
observation, being nearly in the direction
of the sun. Mars is gradually declining
toward the west, but can still be seen in
the early evening. Uranus alone of all the
planets is in a convenient position, but re
quires a powerful telescope te be well seen.
The large red spot upon Jupiter's disc,
which attracted se much attention last
year, is still visible, and may be seen with
an ordinary telescope whenever the rotation
of the planet brings it into view.

Brandy as a Medicine.
The lollewing article was voluntarily sent te
Sir. II. E. Slayuiaker, Agent for Ifcigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian et this county, who has extensively used
the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention of thesu af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice el invalids espe
cially these afllicted with that miserable dis
ease Dyspepsia, a specitic remedy, which is
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with leeble appetite and mere or
less debility, will iind this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe anil use
but one article, and that is
REIGART'S OLD BRANDT,
Sold by our enterprising young friend, II.' E.
SLAY3IAKEU. This Brandy has steed he
test for years, ami lias never failed, as far
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,
no matter with hew many jaw-breaking French
titles they arc branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia spccillcs would sutHce te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such cast or
caseu. In proof el" the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases of Dyspepsia, we can summon nutn
hers of witnesses one case in particular we
cite:
A hard-working tanner had been afflicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of
years; his stomach would reject almost every
kind el" feed; lie had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers anil stale bread,
and as a beverage he used McGrann's Beet
Beer. He is a Methodist, anil then, as new,
preached at times, and iu his discourses often
declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong
drink. When advised te try
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful effects In
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our advice. He
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
lirst bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he-was a sound man. with
a stomach capableerdigestinganything which
he chime te eat. He still keeps it and uesa lit
tle occasionally; and sinew he has this medi
cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene-
