Lancaster Intelligencer,
WEDNESDAY EVENING, APRIL 7,1880.
A NAME.
te e. w. r.
The name the Gallic exile bore,
St. Male ! from thy ancient mart,
Became upon our Western shore
Greenleaf for Fculllevcrt.
A name te hear in soft accord
OflcaTcsby light wind overrun.
Or read, upon the greening sw aril
Ol June, in shade and sun.
That name my infant ear first heard
Breathed softly vrith a mother's kiss ;
Ills mother's own, no tenderer word
My father spake than this.
Xe child have 1 te bear it en ;
Be thou its keeper; let it take
Frem gifts well used and duty done
Xew beauty for thy sake.
The fair ideals that outran
My halting footsteps seek and find
The flawless symmetry of man,
The poise of heart and mind.
Stand firmly where I felt the sway
Of every wing that fancy ficw.
Sec clearly where I groped my way,
Xer real from seeming knew.
And wisely ehoese, and bravely held
Thy faith unswerved by cress or crown.
Like the stout Huguenot of old
Whose name te thee comes down.
As Marmet's songs made glad the heart
Ot that lone exile, haply mine
May in lile's heavy hours impart
Seme strength and hope te thine.
Tet when did Age transfer te Yeutli
The hard gained lessens of its day?
Each lip must learn the taste of truth,
Each feet must lcel its way.
We cannot held the hands of choice
That touch or shun life's lateful keys ;
Te whisper of the inward voice
Is mere than homilies.
Dear boy ! for whom the flowers arc born.
Stars shine, and happy song-birds sing,
What can my evening give te morn.
My Winter te the Spring !
A life net void of pure intent,
With small desert of praise or blame,
The love I felt, the geed I meant,
I leave thee with my name.

The Way it Is Dene by the Best Society.
New Yerk Times.
Mrs. E. S. lligjjins, Ne. 137 Fifth ave
nue gave a very brilliant and unique en
tertainment yesterday afternoon, at which
some 75 ladies of our best society were pres
ent. The spacious parlors were decorat
ed with smilax, palms and llewcrs and
some twenty-five round tables, of the kind
new in use abroad, were brought into re
quisition and distributed at proper inter
vals for artistic effect. Each tabic, ca
pable of seating three or four ladies, had
a tall silver candelabrum, carrying several
lights placed in the centre. The lights
were shaded with screens of orna
mental silk. Upen the plate assign
ed te each lady was placed a geld-bordered
menu, upon which her own name
was printed, and near at hand a beautiful
bouquet and an exquisitely ornamented
and gilded bonbeniere. Beyond the screen
of evergreens a band of music was station
ed. The guests were escorted te this fair
scene by Mrs. lliggins at 1 o'clock in the
afternoon, and lingered some heuis ever
the most delightful dejeuner a lafeurchettc
that has been given this season. The af
fair was under the supervision of Pinard.

Brandy as a Medicine.
The following article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. II. h. Sluyiuaker, Agent for Reigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian et this county, who has extensively used
the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention et theso af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
Tliii new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
Used a a medicine of great potency in the cure
et some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their ami mil thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the luverablu notice et invalids espe
cially tlie-e alllictcd with that niNcruhlu di
eae Iy.spepia, a specific remedy, which is
nothing meiu or less than
Brandy.
Thenged, with tecble appetite and mere or
lev, debility, will lind this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
erall their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and use
but one article, and that is;
REIGART'S OLD BRANDT,
Sold bv our enterprising young friend, II.'E.
SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed (he
ti:st for years, and has never failed, as tar
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,
no matter with hew manyjaw-brcaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would suflice te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such case-or
eases. In proof of the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases et Dyspepsia, we can. summon mini
hers of witnesses one c:isc in particular we
cite :
A hard-working larmcr had been afflicted
with an exhaustive Dy-pepsia ler a number of
years; his stomach would reject almost every
kind of loed ; lie had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used MeUrann's Reet
Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new,
preached at times, ami in his discourses elten
declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong
drink. When advised te try
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful effects in
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our advice. He
u-ed tlie Brandy faithfully ami steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he was a sound man, with
a stomach capable of digestinganything which
he chose te eat. He still keeps it and uses a lit
tle occasionally; and since he 1ms this meili
ci.ie he lias been of very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A Pkactisine Puysician.
