fc 1." . 5 te r. MONDAY EVENING, APRIL 5, 1880. A Dead Western City. Detroit Free Press. Michigan men, who have lately returned from Custer City, assert that the glory of the place has forever departed. In these days when a stranger in buckskin, leaded down with knives and revolvers, enters the town and yells out that he is the great Recky Mountain Ibex and spoiling te shed gore, no one gives him a second leek. If he jumps into a saloon and slams down a buckskin bag full of dust and calls for the drinks for the crowd, the saloeuist won't touch a decanter until he opens the bag te see if it isn't filled with brickdust. There was a time when a man could stand en the public square and hanker fur a geed old fashioned rough-and-tumble fight and get it before he could flop his arm and crew twice, but that time has fled. He can stand there and hanker and crew and flop, and the old residents will laugh in con tempt and ask why he doesn't start a taffy foundry in Custer. There is no fun there any mere. "When a man jumps into a hotel dining-room with a bowie knife in his teeth and a revolver in each hand, he can't hit anybody if he sheets, and as seen as he begins sheeting the guest nearest him rises up and then knocks him down with a piece of cran berry pie, or hits him in the eye with a broiled potato. It used te be great sport for Wild Bill te ride into town en a mule and sheet and yell and whoop and lash until everybody was in doers, but it is net done any mere. The last one who tried it was knocked off his mule with a quart can of tomatoes and taken before the court, when his honor said : "Thoughtless and giddy boy, you prob ably didn't mean any harm, but a feller who can't even wound a cress eyed deg in firing twenty-four shots into a crowd shouldn't be seen in Custer City. The sentence of this court is that you have your hair cut, your leggins ripped off, and then be kicked out of the city, never te return under penalty of having your cars cropped." Men used te go toiling up and down the main street picking their teeth with a huge knife and asking where the graveyard was, but even this game of bluff was cut sheit last fall when the constables attached the teeth-picks for debt and chucked the pickers into the basement lock-up en sus picion that they were looking around te steal old axes and buck-saws. Hardly a month age the "Great Tornado of the Plains " was knocked down with an axe handle and run in and fined $25 because he steed en a barrel and yelled for some one te tread en his liver pad, and thereby dis turbed four men who were in a house near by reading tracts. Freiit, S1.200. " Te sum it up, six long years of bed-ridden sickness, costing $200 per year, total $1,200 all et this expense was si op) ted by three bottles of Hep Bitters taken by my wile. She has done her own housework for a year since, without the less et a day, and I want everybody te knew it, for their benefit. al-2wcU;w A Great Discovery by a Great Alan. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart's Old Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi cian et this county, who has extensively used the Brandy referred te in his regular practice. It is commended te the attention of these af llieted with Indigestion and Dyspepsia. BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant was never intended as a beverage, but te be used as a medicine of great potency in the cure of some of the destructive diseases which s weep away their annual thousands of victims. With a purely philanthropic motive we pre sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe cially these ufilicted with that miserable Ii ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which is nothing mere or less than Brandy. The aged, with lecble appetite and mere or less debility, will find this simple medicine, when used properly, A Sovereign Remedy or all their ills and aches. Be it, however strictly understood that we prescribe and ue but one article, and that is; REIGART'S OLD BRANDY, Sold by our enterprising young friend, H.'E. SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the test for years, and has never failed, as far as our experience extends, and we therefore give it the preference ever all ether Brandies, nemattcrwlth hew many jaw-breaking French titles they are branded. One-fourth of the money that is yearly thrown away en various impotent dyspepsia specifics would suilice te buy all the lirandy te cure any such case or cases. In proof of the curative powers et Reigart's Old Brandy, In cases of Dyspepsia, we can summon num here of witnesses one case in particular we cite: A hard-working farmer had been atllictcd with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ter a number of years ; his stomach would reject almost every kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread, and as a beverage lie used McGrann's Reet Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new, preached at times, and in his discourses etten declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong drink. When advised te try Reigart's Old Brandy, In his case, he looked up with astonishment, but after hearing of its wonderful effects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he at last consented te fellow our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him an appetite, and before the second was taken lie was a sound man.with a stomach capable of digesting anything which lie chose te eat. He still keeps it and uses a lit tle occasionally ; and since lie has this medi cine lie has been of very little pecuniary bene fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician. H. E.
