WEDNESDAY EVE'O, MAECH 24, 1880.
"TRANSVERSE AND FAKALLEL."
" Thy will, dear Lord, from mine doth run
Toe elt a different way ;
'lis bard te say' Thy will bu done,'
In every darkened day ;
3Iy heart grows chill
Te gee Thy will
Turn all life's geld te gray.
"My will Is set te gather flowers.
Thine blights them in my hand ;
Mine reaches for life's sunny hours,
Thine leads through shadow land :
And all my days
Ge en in ways
I cannot understand.
" Vet mere and mere this truth doth shine
Frem failure and from less,
The will that runs transverse te Thine
Deth thereby make its cress ;
Thine upright will
Cuts straight and still
Through pride, and dream and dress.
nut if in parallel te Thine
3Iy will doth meekly run,
All things in heaven and earth are mine.
My will is cre-sed by none ;
Theu art in me
And I in Thee,
Thy will and mine are done."
TJie Snow-Breaker.
Interesting Account of the Instinct of that
Neble Animal, the Ilertc.
The loose snow drifts deeply between
Truckce and Sierraville. The mail is car
ried tri-weekly, hence the read has te he
traveled one way each day. During the
heavy winter weather the .sleigh which car
ries the mail is drawn hy three horses,
driven tandem. By this means a single
bread path is beaten into the middle of the
read. When the storms are raging it
is necessary te carry the mail en horse
back. Its average weight is from 100
te 1.10 pounds each trip. The mail
bags arc strapped en two horses,
which are led by the driver, Sel.
Uensseau, who rides a third horse. A
fourth horse, with only a halter en, is
turned loose te break the read. This horse
is kept for the sole purpose, and is
called the "snow-breaker " Fer six
winters this animal has traveled the Sierra
valley read. Turned loose at either
Truckce or Sierraville, he will at once set
out upon his dreary journey. The winds
obliterate traces of the narrow path, but
with marvelous instinct the horse fellows
its every turn and winding. Sometimes
the huge drifts bewildered him for a
moment, and missing the hard-beaten
path he sinks out of sight in the loose snow.
Out of sight is used iuite literally, for it.
frequently occurs that his body is com
pletely "covered, and his head alone
above the surface. If he knows
ou which side the trail lies, he will
plunge and struggle te regain
his foothold. If, as sometimes occurs, lie
is confused as te the proper direction he
possesses the wonderful instinct of keep
ing perfectly quiet until the driver dis
mounts from his horse and comes forward
te point out the read. By means of a long
stick the driver limls the trail, and beating
a path for a few feet in front of the dis
comfited snewbieaker, speaks an encour
aging word te the peer animal. Every
nerve and muscle is immediately strained
te regain the lest path, and the horse re
sumes his task of guide. The snow-breaker
seems te possess almost human intelli
gence. Neither darkness nor storms ever
seem te daunt him or cause him te mis
lead mere than a few feet.. "When in doubt
he will take little short steps, scarcely six
inches in length, and each feet feels for the
hard-beaten ledges which form the path.

Brandy as a Medicine.
The following article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. II. E. Slnymaker, Agent for ICeigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian et this county, who has extensively used
the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the euro
of seuie of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe
cially these allllctcd with that miserable dis
ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which is
nothing morn or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with teeble appetite and mere or
less debility, will tind this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe anil uae
but one article, and that is;
REIGART'S OLD BRANDY,
Sold by our enterprising young ffiend, II." E.
SLAYJIAKEK. This Brandy has steed the
test for years, and has never failed, as lar
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,
no matter with hew many jaw-breaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would sulliee te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or
cases. In proof of the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon mini
hers of witnesses one case in particular we
cite:
A hard-working farmer had been aillictcd
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of
vears; his stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used McOrann's Beet
Beer. lie is a Methodist, and then, as new,
preached at times, and in his discourses often
declaimed earnestly against all kinds el strong
drink. When advised te try
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful effects in
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our advice, lie
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and belere
the second was taken he was a sound man.with
a stomach capable of digesting anything which
he chose te eat. He still keeps it and usesulit
tie occasionally; and since lie has this medi
cine he has been of very little pecuniar bene
fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician.
