THE OLD PRINTER.
A printer steed at his case one night.
In his office dark and drear,
And his weary sight was dim as the light
Ofthe meuldy lamp hung near ;
The wild wintry winds were howling without,
And the snow falling thick and fast,
But the printer, I trew, shook his locks cl
snow.
And laughed at the shrieking hlast ;
lie watched the hands of the clock creep
round,
Keeping time with its snail-like tick,
As he gathered the type, with a weary click,
In his old, rust-eaten stick.
Ills hairs were as white as the falling snow.
And silently, day hy day,
He beheld them with grief, like the autumn
leaf,
One by one, "passing away."
Time had cut with his plow furrows deep in
his brew,
His cheek wus fevered and thin,
And his long Reman nese could almost repose
Its head en his gray-bcarded chin ;
Anil with Angers long, as the hours stele en,
Keeping time with clock's dull tick.
He gathered the type, witli a weary click,
In his old, rust-catcn stick.
Fer many long years, thre' Jeys and thre'
tears.
That old printer's timc-battcrcd face,
Se ghostly and lean, night and morn has been
seen,
Earnestly bent o'er his case.
In a lew ycar.-i mere death will lock up his
form.
And put it te press in the mould.
And a hteue, o'er the spot where they lay him
te ret,
Will tell us Ids name and hew old ;
And his comrades will light that old lamp by
Ids case,
And list te the clock's dull tick,
As they .set up Ids death witli a solemn click.
In his old, rust-eaten stick.
Their First Acquaintance.
The geed brethren of Hartferd have been
dreaming dreams and telling them at
Friday night experience meetings. One
worthy deacon has related a vision in
which twebrcthrcn met in heaven, and one
of them incidentally remarked that he
came from earth. The ether immediately
caught at the idea and remarked with much
interest: "Indeed! I also came from
earth.'' He replied : "Is that se? Pray, in
what portion of the earth did you come ?"
He answered : " Frem the United States
of America."' The ether replied: "Ah!
you did. I also came from there. Hew
happy I am te meet you and te make your
acquaintance. New pray tell me from
which of the states you came."' ne replied :
I came of the geed old state of Connecti
cut the land of steady habits " Mere
interested than ever, he exclaimed:
" Is it possible ! If you will believe, I also
came from that state."" Here he proceed
ed te inquire further. "Excuse me: but
may I ask further, from what place in
Connecticut you came?" Certainly,'"
he replied. " I came from Hartferd."
Mere astonished still he exclaimed: " Hew
strange. Why. I came from there tee, and
yet we never made each ether's acquain
tance." The inquiry then arose : " With
what particular church in that city were
you connected ?' He answered : ""With
the Rev. "s church."" He exclaimed :

never became acquiuted or even spoke with j
each ether. lhc two brethren implored
each ether's forgiveness and asked Ged te
help them te st aside earthly distinctions
and te live mere in the fellowship of the
spirit and of Christian brotherhood.
The Ice Moving.
The steamer Arragon, which reached
New Yerk en Sunday, reported passing
seven icebergs en or near the twenty-ninth
meridian in the steamer route te England.
This announcement, taken with similar ac
counts from steamers preceding her, indi
cates an unusual eastwardly movement of
the great ice drift new beginning te emerge
from the Greenland seas. The ice drift is
seldom met with cast of the fortieth meri
dian, se that the berg which the Arragon
sighted may be stragglers driven far be
yond the Newfoundland coast by the re
cent high westerly winds. They may,
however, be masses that have floated down
from East Greenland and the Spitzbergen
coasts, and in this case they indicate a
general movement of Arctic ice that would
make North Atlantic navigation peculiarly
dangerous just new. It is considered ex
ceptionally early in the year for ice in any
quantities te be seen in February or March
even nearer the Graud Banks.
