CORONER'S IXIJUESTS.
Lane and 11 is Victims.
Deputy Corener Erb, of Ceney town
ship, came te the city this morning, bring
ing with him and presenting te the county
commissioners the several inquests held by
him en the bodies of Charles Lane (.net
Levi Lane as before reported) and his
wife and children, of whose tragic death
full particulars have heretofore been pub
lished. The verdicts are in the following lan
guage :
"Charles Lane came te his death by
suicide taking poison after murdering
his wife both found lying the same.
Charles Lane was aged about 30 years."
" Mary Lane came te her death from
violence her neck being broken, her face
mashed up and her skull fractured sup
posed te have been done by her husband,
Charles Lane, he being a powerful man.
steed six feet six inches in his beets.
Mary Lane was aged about 32 years."
" Alberta Lane came te her death from
administration of poison, supposed te have
been given her by her father, Charles
Lane her neck being broken also, sup
posed te have been done by her father.
She was aged about ten years."
"An infant, aged about four years, came
te its death from suffocation. It was
found lying between the dead bodies of its
father and mother, with its face resting
against its mother's breast."
There is little te add te the history of
this triple murder and suicide. Lane is
said te have been a native of Adams
county, though he came with his family
from Maryland last spring as has licrcto licrcte licrcto
ferebcen stated. His wife's maiden name
has net been ascertained. His brother,
William Lane, a peer laboring man, lives
in Ceney township, about two or three
miles from Bainbridgc. He is married,
has a wife and child, and is said te be a
very decent sort of man.
The little boy, Geerge Lane, a son of the
murderer, who was found in the house
where the murder was committed, almost
frozen and starved, is impreing in health
under the kind attention being given him
by Abraham Smith, of Bainbridgc, who
has taken care of him since the tragedy.
His feet and legs arc terribly frozen, but it
is thought they may be saved. He is a
bright little fellow, but tee young te ap
preciate the terrible tragedy in which he
is the only surviving actor.
IluflVtle lltll at the Opera Heuse.
Last evening Buffalo Bill and his dra
matic company produced the play entitled,
"Knight of the Plains," in Fulton opera
house te a tremendous audience. The
house was packed before the performance
began. The boys fought each ether te get
te the ticket ellice aftei the doers were
opened, and some were badly trampled by
their anxious friends. The play is
of the sensational elder, but is better
than most of its class. Buffalo Bill
himself filled the leading roles in a man
ner which greatly pleased the audience.
The company supporting him, which in
cluded several Indians and interpreters,
played the parts assigned them accsptably.
During the play Bill gave an exhibition of
his sheeting, which was something won
derful. The scenery used in the play was
very fine.
The election returns were read from the
stage during the play and they created the
wildest excitement. MacGenigle seemed
te have the house "by a large majority,"
as he had the city.

Henry Kuitz, action en a promissory note
of $4000 given by Samuel Kurtz and James
II. Strickler, tanners, doing business at
Mt. Jey, under the firm name of Kurtz &
Ce., and endorsed by the defendant, Henry
Hicstand and Samuel Hestler. After
hearing the testimony, the court directed
the jury te find in a verdict in favor of the
plaintiff. The amount of the verdict as
rendered was $4,173.47.
Gee. II. Kcllcnberger vs. Dr. J. iV. Geed,
action en a mechanics lien. Beth the
pai ties te the suit reside in Bareville. In
the fall el 1878 the plaintiff erected a house
and stable for the defendant at a contract
price of 81,549.30. The former, as is
alleged, made alterations in his plan and
the defendant claims that he was com
pelled te de mere work than agreed upon.
He claims that there is yet owing te him
$208 by the defendant. On trial.

James Menkt Dies iu a Shed.
James Maffat, residing at 521 Poplar
street, died very suddenly about one
o'clock te-day in a small building in the
yard of Moere's Lamb hotel, en Seuth
Queen street. He had been around the
hotel for a time during the .forenoon and
about an hour before he was found he
went out of the bar-room te the shed in
the yard. Afterwards some of the parties
at the hotel had occasion te go te the
shed, and upon doing se he found Moffat
lying down. The man was net certain
whether he was dead at the time. A phy
sician was sent for and he came in a few
moments, when it was found that Moffat
was dead. The deceased was a bricklayer
by trade, and was well known throughout
the city. He was about 48 years of age,
and he leaves a wife, but no children.
Corener Mishler was summoned at once,
and he impauelcd a jury. They ren
dered a verdict of death from heart
ease.

Yesterday Peter "Wbhlsen was driving
a horse, while en his way te the Seventh
ward election polls, in such a reckless man
ner that he ran ever a little daughter of
Charles Petennan of Green Street. The
child was badly cut about the head and
was bruised about the body, the wheels of
Wohlsen's carriage having passed ever her.
Mr. Peterman has brought suit against
Wohlsen before Alderman Dennelly of the
Seventh ward.

A MIXED ELECTION.
Jehn K. Findlay Elected Police Magistrate.
Philadelphia, Feb. 18. The election in
this city yesterday for magistrate, and city
councilmen created rather mere interest
than is usual in municipal elections, owing
te the number of candidates in the Held.
Twenty-three magistrates were te be
chosen, for which there were nominated 13
Republicans, 13 Regular Democrats and 8
Democrats by an independent convention.
The election resulted in the choice of
the 13 Republicans, 7 of the Regular
Democrats and 1 Independent Democrat,
ex-Judge Jehn K. Findlay, who received
the votes of a number of Republicans.

council there were in a number of the
wards nominations mode by the
Republicans in opposition te the regular
conventions, and the contest was carried
in with considerable bitterness by
the opposing factions. Fer select coun
cil in the First ward, Houseman, Regular
Republican nominee, was elected. In
the Nineteenth ward, Albright, Regular,
was elected ever Emslcy, who was sup
ported by both the Democrats and Inde
pendent Republicans. In the Twenty
first ward, Charles Thompson Jenes,
Regular, was defeated by Jehn S. Davis,
Independent Republican. The above are
all strong Republican wards and the
Democrats generally assisted the In
dependent Republicans.
The select council new stands 2(' Re
publicans and 3 Democrats.
Fer common council the interest cen
tered in the 9th, 13th, 21th and SOth
wards, where the Independents made a
strong fight against the regular nominees
of the Republicans and were successful in
the three latter wards, the regular iiomince
being elected in the Ninth ward ever Jehu

Democrat. The vote for common council
resulted in the election of 2 Regular
Republicans ami 5 Independent Rcpubli
licans, and 3 Democrats, and with these

The teun of Jehn Becckman,
serving a sentence iu New Yerk, expired
this morning, and he was released. A
Reading officer was in readiness te re-arrest
him, but Becckman lied. He was
captured by a Newfoundland deg and will
be sent back te Reading.
A Russian was arrested in Paris yester
day, charged en an extradition wairant
with attempting the life of the Czar.
Governer Blackburn of Kentucky, has
signed the death warrant of Rebert Ander Ander
eon who murdered his wife in April 1878.
The execution takes place April 2d.

An abortive attempt was yesterday made
te kill the imperial family by laying a
mine in the Winter Palace. The explosion
took place under the guard room of the
palace, which is immediately beneath the
dining hall. Owing te accidental delay
the imperial family had net entered the
latter at the usual time. The explosion
made a hole in the fleer of the dining hall
ten feet long and six wide. Five soldiers
weie killed and thirty-five wounded.
