The plaintiff alleged that the property was transferred tj her by an uncle en account of his love and affection for her. He lives in Iowa ami the plaintiffs allege that they sent him the transfer with interrogatories for the purpose of obtaining his deposition. He would net have his deposition taken unless he received $40. He also refused te return the transfer. The plaintiff offered te prove the contents of the transfer by oral testi mony. This was net allowed by the court and a juror being withdrawn the case was continued. In the case of S. Clay Miller's use vs. .lehn G. Yesterday about neon a man apparently 50 or 00 years of age was found dead en vthe Lancaster and Columbia turnpike near Mountville. Deputy Corener "Win. Roberts held nn inquest en the body. On the person of the stranger was a geld watch and a small amount of money, and some letters which .seemed te indicate that his name was Frank Be wly, and that he be longed te Winchester, Virginia. One of tint letters was written by a Reading druggist and seemed te be in answer te one written by Bewly, as it stated that there was no i)r. Appleton new living in Reading. The deceased stranger was seen in Mountville yesterday morning by several persons. He then appeared te be suffering and said he felt very sick. It is probable that he walked along the pike until ha became ex hausted and then lay down and died. There were no marks of violence en his person. The corencr'sjury returned a ver dict of denth from natural causes. The body is lying at Mountville, and Deputy Corener Rebeits has telegraphed te Win chester in hopes of hearing from the un fortunate man's friends. Yerit vote may change the result. Hasten te the polls and cast it for Mac Gonigle ! Found Guilty. In the United States district court, Philadelphia, yesterday, before Judge Butler, Themas E. Gable, a cigar dealer, this city, was tried en the charge of selling cigars in rc-used boxes. They had been sold te one Mrs. Aaren, corner of Lew and Freiberg streets, and she testi fied that defendant sold them, while a cigar manufacturer testified that the boxes had been previously tilled by him. A ver dict of guilty was rendered. Sentence deferred. The pelks remain open until 7 o'clock. Plenty of time te get another one in for MacGenigle. A Bad Turnpike. A subscriber residing at Elizabethtown complains of the almost impassable condi tion of the turnpike between that borough and Middlctewn, and requests us te call the attention of the directors te the matter, se that it may be promptly repaired. Baer, Rohrerstewn.and stele therefrem a new overcoat, a hand some zephyr scarf, about 50 pounds of flour, a number of pies, plates, cakes,' oranges, spoons and perhaps some ether articles. The thieves entered the house by forcing up the lower sash of a window which was fastened at the top with one of the usual sort of window fasteners, and then broke the belts which fastened the inside shut ters. This gave them admission te the .store room in which the family previsions are kept. Adjoining the store room is another room, from which there is a stairway leading te the cellar where Mr Baer's liquors arc kept. The burglars failed te break the lock leading into this room. They w ere probably disturbed and scared off before finishing the job they had undertaken. There were several ether articles of cloth ing in the room including a half-worn overcoat, hat, gloves, cap, which did net seem te strike the thieves' fancy ; and there was a solid silver ladle, which they evidently overlooked. A square box con taining Mrs. Baer's thread, needles, cce., was broken open but none of the contents stolen. The box was thewn into the yard It is supposed the thieves were there about 2 o'clock, as a neighbor living net far off heard a noise that sounded like that made by knocking at or breaking open a deer. They robbery was net discovered until after daybreak, and there is as yet no clue th the thieves. This makes the fourth time burglars have paid their requests te Mr. Baer. Last fall a year they broke into his present residence and stele a quantity of meat and whisky, and twice previously they broke into his farmhouse some distance from Rohrcrstewn. Hetel Robbed. The hotel new kept by Samuel Slyer (better known as Iniinel's hotel) situated en the Harrisburg pike, near the second gate, was broken into and robbed of a pair of beets, about a gallon of gin, a box of cigars and a few ether articles. The thief effected an cnterance into the bar-room by fereing the back window of the bar-room. A demijohn of whisky and some- clothing in the room were left undisturbed. As the hotel is only a short distance from Mr. Baer's house, it is probable that both robberies were committed by the same party. THi; CITVKLhX'l'IO.N. A Heavy Vete Being Polled. He will be supported by a strong dramatic company, including several Indians. The election returns will be read from the stage between ;thc acts. The St. Leuis Glebc-Dem ecrat says of Buffalo Bill : "Buffalo Bill and his 1'awnce chiefs had a $1,000 house last night at the Grand opera house. The gallery and family circle were literally packed, and never were actors mere enthusiastically applauded. The wild horse dance waj true te Hie, and was performed by real Indians, with regular built tomahawks and spears. Cedy's rille sheeting is something marvelous, and excels the marksmanship of Frank Frayne, Carver and Bogardus. The Ecsnlt of the Ingallx Investigation. "Washington, Feb. 17. In the Senate te-day, Mr. Saulslmry presented tlic ma jority report in the Ingalls case. It finds that bribery and corruption were employed te secure Ingalls' election, but that there is no evidence that Ingalls autherzed such improper acts. CUT HIS JUGULAR. O'Reilly, a stranjrer here, committed suicide in the station-house Sunday night by cutting his jugular vein with a lancet It is said he is a prominent physician of Louisville, and strayed te Texas while under the influence of liquor. THE PROPOSED WORLD'S FAIR. Mr. Herman's Rill te be Favorably Reported. Washington, Feb. 17. The Senate finance committee te-day agreed te recom mend the passage of Mr. Kcrnan's New Yerk world's fair bill. It will be reported te Senate this afternoon. THE FITZ JOHN POUTER RILL. Republlcans Determined te Use It te Re vive Sectional Debate Washington dispatch te tlic New Yerk Sun. The bill for the relief of Fitz Jehn Por Per ter was net taken up by the Senate, be cause the five per cent, military land bill had priority en the calendar. The Fitz Jehn Perter bill is causing the Democrats a great deal of annoyance. It is thought that a majority of Democratic senators are opposed te its consideration new, and the majority in the Heuse will net touch the bill at the present session. The Republi cans have fully determined te use the bill te revive sectional debate. Senater Legan gave notice some time age of his purpose te oppose the bill te the cud, and his stal wart confreres propose te fight the civil war ever again in debate if the Democrats can be led into a discussion en the subject. There has been nothing in the congres sional debates of the past te indicate that the Southern senators ami representatives will held their tongues when the war mem ories are revived. Senater Randelph, who has the bill in charge, is in an unpleasant fix. He does net desire te lead a movement which will give the Republicans a chance te shake the bloody shirt in the faces of his Southern friends, but he has committed himself te the championship of the bill, and cannot gracefully permit it te sink out of sight for another session. The Heuse has already decided net te consider the bill for the present. It was understood that this decision was reached because ac tion by the Senate was first desired. Messrs. Garfield. Frye and half a i'e:cn ether leading Republicans in the Heuse had an informal private consultation in the room of the committee of ways and means about the Perter bill. They decided te oppose its passage and te debate it te the fullest extent, Garfield was a member of the court martial which erginally con victed Perter. He has mere at stake in op posing the relief act than his col leagues. He has net written a speech against Perter as has been alleged. He says that he will net lead in the fight against the bill, but while it is under con sideration will make a speech against its passage. As the Heuse has decided net te take up the bill this session, it is difficult te understand the desire of certain Demo cratic senators te push the bill through at a time when sectional discussion will be almost certain te result te their political disadvantage. irAXTEIi. w ANTED.
