TUESDAY EVENING, JAN, 20, 1880.
THE GOLDEN SIDE.
There's many a rest en tbe read of life.
If we veuld only step te take it;
And many a tone from the better land,
If the querulous heart would wake It,
Te the sunny soul that Is full of hope,
And whose beautiful trust ne'er failcth,
The grass Is green and the flowers arc bright,
Though the wintry storm prcvaiietii.
Better te hope, though the clouds hang low,
And te keep the eyes still lifted ;
Fer the sweet blue sky will seen peep through,
When the ominous clouds arc lifted,
There was never a night without day.
Ner an evening without a morning;
And the darkest hour the proverb gees
Is the hour before the dawning,
There is many a gem in the path of lile.
Which we pass in our idle pleasure,
That is richer far than the jeweled crown.
Or the miser's hoarded treasure :
It may be the love of a little child,
Or a mother's prayer te Heaven,
Or only a beggar's grateful thank
Fer a cup of water given,
Ucttcr te weave in the web of life
A bright and golden tilling,
And te de Ged's will with a heavy heart.
And liands that are swift and willing,
Than te snap the delicate silver threads
Of our curious lives asunder :
And then blame Heaven for the tangled ends
Anil sit te grieve and wonder.
