TUESDAY EVENING, JAN. 13, 1880.
Tke Light In HcbIe Park.
Mr. EdlMn PremiRes te Sarprlse the Doubt
era A Story or His Abseat-MindedneM.
" There's Edisen's light ! " exclaimed a
passenger in a train that stepped at Menlo
Park last evening, and a rush te one side
of the car resulted. " Twe bright lights
glowed upon lamp-pests standing en the
elevation opposite the railway station, and
these were regarded with much interest
and curiosity by the travelers. The Penn
sylvania railroad conductors say that this
is a nightly occurrence en the read. In
fact passengers bound te Philadelphia,
Baltimore and "Washington are often un
able te withstand the temptation te sec
the electric apparatus in the brilliantly
illumined laboratory in the distance and
remain for the next train.
Mr. Edisen says that all the lights arc
as brilliant as when first set up, and cer
tainly they show no less of intensity te the
ordinary observer. Se pleased is he with
what he considers ins almost pucnemcnai
success in the carbon principle, with in in
candesence instead of the voltaic arc, that
he proposes seen te establish at least one
electric station in New Yerk that is te bay
a station that will supply the buildings en
a radius of one-third of a mile. Just hew
seen this will be he is unable te say, but
he says he believes that he has a great
surprise in store for these who de net be
lieve in his light. Either the ground fleer,
cellar or sub-cellar of an ordinary build
ings will, he says, be sufficient ler his
purpose. In this he will set up a powerful
steam engine, a dynamo machine, and
several generators. Thence insulated
wires will bi led out te a number of build
ings, and these will supply as many lights
as are required.
One of the most curious objects in Edi Edi
eon's laboratory is an electric light that
has been completely submerged in a bath
of water for several weeks. It is designed
for submarine work and as an assistance
te divers in prosecuting their work in re
covering sunken treasures and in patching
up sunken ships se that they may be
raised.
Se constantly is Mr. Edisen absorbed in
his electric problems that his assistants say
that he would forget te eat his meals and
f;e te bed if he were net reminded of these
hings. The ether day, while returning from
New Yerk, he alighted from the train at
Menlo Park, forgetting that he had left his
little daughter aboard. As the train was
about te start en its way te Philadelphia,
the conductor recognized the child. " Arc
you net Mr. Edisen's little girl?" said he.
'"Yes, sir !" she answered. " The conduc
tor led her te the platform. Seme 'distance
ahead her father was seen hastening te his
laboratory, entirely forgetful of his negligence.

Guilty of Wrong.
Sonic people have a fashion of confusing ex.
