with long black kid gloves.
Sliicld-sliapcd cravats of sealskin arc

rosebuds transformed into gems.
" Hew many calls bad you?" is still the
question or the society young lady te her
feminine companions.
Mrs. Gladstone has gained a reputation
asan unusually model wife. She is said
never te take her eyes off her husband.
White astrachan, trimmed with leopard
skin, is an odd combination which has ap
peared in the fur gowns worn in Paris.
Persian necklaces arc made of five rows
of Hat geld beads, each bead wrought m a
pattern different from tliat 01 mc uuici.s.
Empress velvet, a new material which
has a heavy silk rib en the outside and a
woolly inner surface, is used for the newest
wraps.
A woman with a icd petticoat, walking
en the Bosten and Maine railroad track,
was se much like a danger signal that a
distant engineer stepped his train.
A Rochester widow, long after rcciving
aid from tha overseer of the peer, was
found te own the house in which she lived
and $1,500 in a bank.
Dinner and evening gowns arc made
with trimmings that fellow the mam line
of the dress, and every effort is made te
give the wcaicr the appearance of stateli
nass. The Manchester niamifactureis of vel
veteen wax learned, and name their newest
product 'Mancunium," the name el the
town under Reman domination.
Letters from Paris report a tendency to
wards the revival of .Tosephine styles, the
short round waists, the wide belts, the
ciii.rlit skirts, and the sashes of child-
..,......- ,
heed.
Genuine acorns, in theireups, and nicely

A Cincinnati jeweler says that if some
of the smart scientific men would turn
their attention te trying te improve oil
color diamonds, they might add greatly te
their own wealth and that of the world.
Twe vases recently made in Paris for
wedding presents were slender tubes of ir
idescent glass placed between the nntcume
of a jeweled, dragen-ily, of which the
wings "and body almost hid the glass.
A gicat feature in evening dresses of
thin materials, such as gauze, grenadine,
etc., is the quantity of gatherings upon
them. Up te the present, however, mere
satin anil velvet dresses have been made
for evening wear than flimsier fabrics.
There arc many hanl tasks set for women
in this world, but few which thev lind it
impossible te perform. Still, there never
was a woman who could keep a fur-lined
circular from Hying open and showing the
fur. Jionlen Trunnciyit.
Silver-frosted bees were the gift of the
bridegroom te the bridesmaids at a recent
English wedding, at which the bride's
initals were 15. E. E. Breeches decorated
with jeweled Hies were worn by Lady Mary
Coke's bridesmaids.
French cashmeres, wrought in polka
dots of the same color, appeared in some
of the costumes imported in the autumn,
and are new shown in the piece. They arc
combined with silk, satin or velvet in cos
tumes, and are softer and lighter than
camels -hair.
Jennie June tells of a 2sTew Yerk girl
who. at her New Year's reception, worn a
gown of pink satin, with short, pointed
waist, cut body, short sleeves, and gather
ed skirt, plain around the bottom. Her
hair was arranged in plain bands at the
sides, and decorated with a rose and bows
placed low near the neck, back of which
were arranged round braids.
Skating costumes are the gowns in
which there is the greatest call for novelty
in England just new. The wraps worn are
cither ulsters or cloth jackets with heeds
lined with gay handkerchiefs and beneath
them is a jersey of red silk, with velvet
sleeves and skirt, and millcs of yellow
lace ; or a peppy-colored silk skirt with
fur-trimmed mantles, and a tunic of black
cashmere lined with red, or something
equally gorgeous. A red velvet muff
triiumc 1 with yellow lace and geld braid,
and a black brocade muff lined with red
and trimmed with a spray of red berries,
complete these two costumes.
