song composed of two Ftanza-, written about
the year 1700 by Ruthvcn Jenhyns a poet en
tirely unknown te lame and published in the
Greenwich Magazine for mariners. J

Manager Mishler has the Watsen, Ellis
aud Kcrnell show for a two weeks' en
gagement. Milten Nobles will play ever Mishler s

Miss Margaret Cene, the pietty little
actress of last night's company, is a sister

Havcrly's Mastaden minstrels opened in
Eroeklyn last evening. This is the first

The '"Big Four" minstrel company is
doing an excellent business en their trip
through the state. The press speaks
highly of their performance.
Last week's engagement of Mr.and Mrs.
McKce Rankin at the Arch street theatie,
Philadelphia, was the best that has ever
been plavcd anvwherc with ' The Dan
ites." Jehn T. Feid is said te have lest 1,000
en Gilbert and Sullivan, but he will prob
ably make it up, as ''The Pirates of Pin
zance"' is a success for certain.
Sonic of the New Yerk managers will
herealter abolish the window lithograph
system, by which the persons who allow
pictures te be hung in their stores, are ad
mitted free te the theatres.
Mr. Ferd proposes te put ' The Pirates
of Penzance" in pieparatien at once by
Messrs. Ferd it Zimmerman's opera com
pany, and will produce it at the Philadel
phia Bread Street in a fortnight.
Charles II. Drew, the tenor, left the
Alice Uates opera troupe before they
reached this city because he had net re
ceived his salary from Manager Jack for
some time past.
Alice Oatcs's third husband, te whom
she was recently married, was with her iu
this city. He is a young Philadclphian,
who travels with the company, but does
net act.
Emersen, Clark and the Daly brothers
have organized a traveling troupe which
includes, besides themselves, Murphy and
Shannen, Parker sisters, Jehn Hart, Cor Cer
delia and Yicterclla, Babby Newcomb,
Minnie Lee and several ethers.
Letta, while giving testimony in a St.
Leuis lawsuit, was asked : "What is your
age?" "People might net believe me if I
told," she replied, "for some say that I
am 43." That was the only answer she
would make.
The Arneld Brethers minstrel company
collapsed in New Yerk state last week,
and McCami and Helmes, the song ami
dance men, worked en the railroad at SI
per day for a few days, in order te provide
themselves with suflicicnt means te pay
their fares home.
The New Yerk Mirror preserves two
quaint specimens of advertisements, the
hrst, of the Grand Opera Heuse, "I lie
management takes great pleasure in an
nouncing the last two nights of Mr. Soth Seth
ern ;" the second, " Nible's Garden, E. G.
Gilmerc, manager. Check full every night."
The Dramatic Kara receives $30 each
for the pictures of actors, which they
print en their first page. Wc would like
te knew hew much the Dramatic and
Musical Times receives for their's. Last
week's picture looked as much like a cow
as it did like a woman. It was intended
for Miss Rese Coglan.

hotel. Baltimore, a few weeks aie, wiete

letter : " Come and sec me whenever you
can. lam at Bamum's." The friend
answered: "I am sorry you have com
menced exhibiting yourself. If you had
stuck te literature, you would have made
your mark and fortune. Whereabouts is
the show new?"
