Balance in the ha S
tile Treasurer an:
lot s 1870 --
In exhibiting trimpal statement of the
c
affairs of the oro jiffie Board take pleas
ure In stating that eear which has just
eloped has been one of g reat prosperity, not
only in regard to the increase of insurance, but
also ln regard to the comparative exemption
from loss, the increase of insurance during the
year being
ti
hndred aland forty thousand,
nine hundred an u d five dolrs (00,905) the
amount of loss for thesame period being fifteen
h and thasegqn dollar and i twenty,,
eresan nisseweeareeebted and
o he nee of assessment No. 18,
a . e November 1888, and from the receipts
office. For a list of the losses for the
"yetr, lien payments made by the Treasurer.
There is yet remainining in the hands of the
Treasurer three hundred and fit}-one dollars
and eighty-six cents, (E 151.80,) with five hen
drltti and ninety-tWo dollars and fifty cents
($591.50,) due from Agents, to meet future de
mands on the t company. There has been a
claim presented to the Board by Philip A. Bur
ger, of Millersville, for the loss of the oontente
of his vinegar factory, on the 15th of last Sep
tember, the payment of which has been refused
by the Board. Suit his been instituted against
the Company, and the matter will be passed
upon before the , proper tribunal. There has
also been a claim presented by Henry Immel,
of Millersville, for the reo . int lose of his house
and contents, which were insured for one thou
sand and fifty dollars., ($1,050.) It seems olearto
the Board, beyond all question, that Mr. Immel
has rendered his policy void, by a violation of
a provision contained in all policies issued by
this company, to wit: "Provided and it is here
by declared, that this policy shall not take
effect or be binding if the raid house, he., be
now, or' hereafter, insured in any other office,
unless the same shall be allowed of by the Dl
rectors. of this office, and specified hereon.”
The Board regret the difficulty with regard to
these claims; none such having occurred here
toforc,•it is hoped none such will 000ur here
after. From the above statement it will be.
observed that a large amount of insurance has
been re ered void from non-payment of as
eessmen No. 18; members who have been dis
missed ow the Company for that reason can
not co lain, as full notice and ample time
1
have b given for payment, and as it was the
only assessment made on theirpoliciee for the
last icur years, should have been promptly
paid. It would be unjust to prompt paying
members, that delinquents should enjoy the
benefits of the Company, and not bear their
proportion of the losses. To any such delin
quents who may know by examin heir
policies ,that this aseessment is not pai d , and
whose unkurance is now void, we would state
that by 4 resolution of the Board they can have
their policies renewed on the payment of their
arrears, lert will be subject to the expense of a
resurvefand new polio The benefit of the
three per cent. originallj id on their pre
mium notes will be allewe ther tv ,
