Another attempt to burn the Children's
Home, of this city, was made on Friday
night last. A piece of muslin was inserted in
the bung-hole of a barrel of coal oil in the
cellar, and tire set to it. Fortunately, the
attempt was discovered iu time to prevent a
terrible calamity. An inmate of the institu
tion named Eden Coyle, abont 14 years of
age, was suspected, and on being arrested,
confessed to haying been guilty *of this and
other attempts to burn the house. • She was
committed for trial.

A son of Mr. H. Li Frants,'aged 11 years,

chine in operation at Mr. Simon Hostetter's,
in Warwick township, on. -Saturday last, and
before he could be rescued his right arm was
torn off a little above the elbow. The arm
was twisted round the pully until the ma
chine was stopped. Drs. Bowman and Shenk
were called in, and the bey is doing as well as
can be expected.
Mr. A. C. Leonard, grocer, of this city, wits
robbed of $5OO in bank notes during the night
of Sunday last. The money was taken from
the room in which he slept, at his boarding
house, in North'Qneen, above Orange.

Printers' Paper Mill, which was tiled on Satin ,

is saturated with the vaccine virus, not one in
five, lumdred will, if exposed to the contagion,
take the disease. Sometimes persons will get
Vaccinated, and before the vaccine fever has
taken Wed, will expose theniselves to the
contagion of Small-Pox; and as inhalation is
a quicker process than absorption, it is natural
to stimsrse that in such an exposure, Sma
Pox is the consequence.
I have, in my practice, many years ago,
ordered babes, whose mothers were taken
with varioloid, and before the disease was
contagious, to be taken to a neighbor's house,
whore I vaccinated them, and the twelfth day
had them returned to the mother, turd not one
took the disease. lii other instances, mothers
refused to part with their babes and not one
escaped the disease, and t wo•thirds died.

the aggregate profits of the three *VOW'S pre
ceding it46R. The actual eost of the Prison the
preceding year was $15,157.90, being only 4633,-
57 less than the past year, uotwit its:landing, the
large amount expended ' for repairs and main
tenance of the greatly increased number of
vagrants committed during the year ending
