    WHY DON'T YOU CROW ?
Pi e.9ent condition of the Democratic
Roostee!
Glorious `eery! Another Convert!
The cry I, still they come. The Lo
'militia Herald (Dem) of last Wednesday,
in an editorial on the result: of the elec-
lion sale -8
beliete in the lustier of God. AVe be
that his just. i"0 mast l,r• sati s fied. • •
eouragete;s fbi the right.-
That's sensible, Mr. Repaid. Believe
in God's justice, and let the Democratic
party slide ! We congratulate you upon
your radical reconstruction, and welcome
yon to our church--on probation.
---0 , ..- --«.---
liatber Abrabitnt's
TnE Copperheads are much in the con
tlition of the fellow who was running
away from the battle of Gettysburg.
" Stop," said an ()nicer to him ; "stop
and go back to your company." " Step !
thunder," replied the frightened man,
" I can't stop. I'm demoralized. My
mind is all tore up." And on lie went.
IN Boston the clergy are debating the
(,nestion, " whether an intelligent Chris
tian can be a Democrat ?" As it is im
possible to point out a single article in
the Democratic creed which rests on a
foundation of morals or charity, and as
most of the principles of the party con
-diet with every idea of right, justice and
duty, being merely unconscientious ap
peals to auger, hate, and the worst pas
sions, the query is by no means a jocular
Inc.
To relieve Horatio Seymour's anxiety
about his "victories," we have looked all
through the books and can find none
whatever. Mourners should be sent
from Pennsylvania immediately by the
Democracy to comfort him.
WE now look for the disbandment of
the entire rebel army—alike its Northern
and its Southern wings. The American
people has declared by magnificent ac
claim on Tuesday of last week that the
surrender of Lee and Grant was not a
farce, but a stern reality, to be respected
throughout all our domains.
THAT rare mathematician, Sir William
Wallace, Chairman of the Democratic
Central Committee, has closed his office
and will return to Clearfield, there to
ruminate over the difference between fife
facinating figures which deceived his
followers and the stern arithmetic of the
.'.;,,enchanting ballot-boxes.
ANDREW JACKSON'S majority in Penn
sylvania in 1832 was fifty thousand. He
throttled nullification in the person of
john C. Calhoun. Let us now imitate
oar fathers by giving the same vote to
Ulysses S. Grant, who defeated the oft=
'bring of nullification ou the field of battle.
REV. HENRY WARD I3EECTIER rightly
says : " Since all the men who sought to
destroy the Government are rallying
around Seymour, it is fit that all the men
who stood up for the Union should gather
about Grant. It is an honor that will not
happen twice in a man's life-time to vote
for such a man as Grant."
THE Republican victory in Harrisburg,
the capital of Pennsylvania was about
the best piece of work of the campaign.
The Democrats were routed from every
branch of the city government, Mayor,
Council, School Board, Sze. Our friend,
W. W. Hayes, Esq., the Mayor elect, is
a young gentleman of great worth and
strong convictions.
SAYS the Press : The battle-field of
Gettysburg, thank God 1 is not to be rep
resented in the next Congress by a rebel
sympathizer. The election of the noble
hearted Cessna prevents that.
THE New York Tribune says there was
not a single burglary in that city on elec
tion day, neither was there a lady insulted
on the street. The police courts had
nothing to do, and
,the stations were
tenantless—all because the roughs had
been sent to Pennsylvania to vote the
Democratic ticket. The Tribune express
es a wish that renns_ylvania held an
election every day, as New York would
be relieved of many thousands of its evil
ben.
THE New York World says : " Mr.
Seymour's nomination was unexpected,
and gave to many minds a shock." It
will be a regular earthquake by Novem
ber.
IF you vote for Seymour, you vote for
Gen. Forrest, the hero ofFort _Pillow mas
sacre, where three hundred of our men
were killed in cold blood, after they had
thrown down their arms and asked for
mercy.
kr is unfortunate that the many poor
dupes, who can have no interest in the
destruction of the Republic, but, on the
contrary, should have allowed themselves
to be inflamed into such partisan frenzy
as to leave themselves incapable of rea
soning on the great issues of the present
campaign.—lrish Republic.
IN a Democratic procession in Wash
ington, last week, was a banner inscribed,
" Seymour holds no bonds." The proces
sion was mostly made up of rebels.
" DEFEND nothing !" is the cry of the
demoralized Democracy. "Defend every
thing I" we say, " our country—our past
-our policy. Our record is our pride."
