ONE of the strongest arguments ad
duceil by a New York Democratic paper
in favor of Seymour's election, is that his
hands are "as white as a woman's."
TILE election of Grant and Colfax will
destroy the last vestige of the rebellion,
and enable the country to enter upon a
career of prosperity never before known
in history.
THE reason why Seymour didn't want
to accept the nomination, was on account
of hereditary insanity in his family—
fear that great excitement would produce
mental disorder.
IT is said that llon. 11. G. Stebbins,
formerly M. C. from New York, and Judge
Pierrepont, one of the Sachems of Tam
many, will soon declare for Grant.
GENERAL JEFFRIES, the new Regis
ter of the Treasury, a great Johnson
politician, announced himself for Grant
a few days ago.
THE Democratic newspapers are very
much worried about the loyal carpet
baggers at the South. They prefer the
Rebel knapsackers.
IT is thought that Seymour stands
fair chance of carrying the Dry Tortugas.
Also, Mackerellville, the Five Points,
and Saur Kraut Hill.
GENERAL ROSECRANS is in Chicago
and washes his hands of the Copperhe
Convention. So does Gen. Sherman and
every other fighting General.
SINCE the Copperhead nominations
were made, Gov. Wise of Virginia holds
up his head, and defiantly exclaims,
Secession is not dead ; it is more alive
than ever!"
P. W. SIIIEL was hung recently in
Grayson county, Ky., for the murder of a
boy named Docker. Shiel was an active
member of the Democratic party.
MATIIEW ANDERSON, a German of
Peoria, 111., on Tuesday of last week, shot
his wife and tried to kill his mother-in
law• Anderson is a Democrat.
BILL DUGAN and John Murphy, both
Democrats, fought an hour and forty
minutes at Farmiugham, - .lass., on Wed
nesday.
AN exchange remarks that Buckner
should by all means go. for Grant, be
cause Grant went for him at Fort Don
aldson.
GRANT's motto : "Let us have peace.'
➢lotto of the Bread and Butter 13rigade

THE poisonous reptiles in Tammany

"Let us have peace." U. S. GuAN - T.
THE World speaks of Horatio Seymour
as a "patriot." This is an allusion to
Pat Riots in New York in July, 186:3.
To attempt getting up enthusiasm for
Seymour and Blair, is like an attempt to
get up a thunder gust with a penny
whistle.
THE latest case of sun stroke is a
young man striking his daddy for calling
him a Seymourite.
THE Loyal people to Salmon P. Chase :
" On thy belly shalt thou go and dirt shalt
thou eat all the days of thy life."
DEMOCRATIC tactics : Doolittle and
Saymour. Grant's plan : Say less and

GEN. JOHN A. Dix is out in favor of
Grant and Colfax.
HENRY HARDING, a down-town Demo
crat, beat his wife to death on Wednes
day in Philadelphia. He has been arrested
SEMDIES, the pirate, supports Seymour
and Blair, of course, and has made a
speech urging their election.
THE name of Seymour after November
will be changed by popular consent to
Seen-no-more.
SE YMOUR'S " friends"

GRANT'S nomination gives universal
satisfaction—Seymour's, universal stupe

in the city of Reading, was a "flag

Saturday evening, on the building occu

flag-staff nine feet four inches long ; the
flag five and a half by three feet, and the
size of the meeting, and the character of
the speeches in about the same propor

one fife and a gong. Thug, is much un
easiness amomir, the Democratic beer
saloon keepers of Reading, on account of
the apathy of the party. They are afraid
that they will not be able to pay running
expenses during the campaign, as the
election of Grant and Colfax, by an over
whelming majority, is generally admitted
even by the Rerks county Democracy.
