up his head, and defiantly exclaims,

P. W. SIIIEL was hung recently in
Grayson county, Ky., for the murder of a
boy named Docker. Shiel was an active
member of the Democratic party.
MATIIEW ANDERSON, a German of
Peoria, 111., on Tuesday of last week, shot
his wife and tried to kill his mother-in
law• Anderson is a Democrat.
BILL DUGAN and John Murphy, both
Democrats, fought an hour and forty
minutes at Farmiugham, - .lass., on Wed
nesday.

raising" at and Court street, last
Saturday evening, on the building occu
pied by D. Ermentrout, Esq. The build
ing is about twenty-two feet high ; the
flag-staff nine feet four inches long ; the
flag five and a half by three feet, and the
size of the meeting, and the character of
the speeches in about the same propor
tion. The music consisted of two drums,
one fife and a gong. Thug, is much un
easiness amomir, the Democratic beer
saloon keepers of Reading, on account of
the apathy of the party. They are afraid
that they will not be able to pay running
expenses during the campaign, as the
election of Grant and Colfax, by an over
whelming majority, is generally admitted
even by the Rerks county Democracy.
