IF the Republicans of Lancaster, Dau phin, Chester and other Republican coun ties will work as the Republicans of Schuvlkill, Perks, Lehigh, Carbon, Northampton and other minority coun ties work. Grant's majority wilt not be less than twenty-live thousand in the old Keystone State. IF Gen. Grant reduced the expenses of the Government !'.i412,000,000 per annum, as the head of one department of the Government, how much will he the re duction when he has a right to interfere in all departments? No Democrat need hesitate to give his support to Judge Chase on the score of principle. ," These suspenders," said an auctioneer, " are elastic—long enough for any man, short enough for any boy, and warranted to fit." nracii POMEROY is trying to prove that Grant is a "stick in the mud," and a "fool." We have too much respect for the genius of Lee to believe it. Brick Pomeroy is an Ass. THE St. Louis Democrat says: "Grant and Colfax ! It is a Western ticket, and will sweep the West like wildfire. Mis souri will give for such candidates on such a platform, 20,000 Radical majority." CERTAIN Democratic papers are anx ious that General Grant should resign. A similar anxiety was evinced in 1804 and 165 by the entrenched rebels in Richmond. History repeats itself. THE Philadelphia Press remarks that but two ex-Presidents are left among the physically living—Pierce and Fillmore. oth have long been in their political coffins. YELLOW fever and a new revolution are reported in Mexico. The Democratic National Convention will be held on the Fourth of July next, at the Five Points, New York. THE Democratic National Committee have ordered twenty thousand likenesses of General Jackson to be circulated in Bells county during the present cam paign. WHEN the Democratic National Con vention selects its victims for sacrifice there will be a considerable loosening of party fetters, and many who now hesi tate will hesitate no longer. LONGSTREET, the ablest general of the late Confedercy, is open and out-spoken for Grant and Colfax. Dr. Blackburn, the small pox importer, is a Democrat. ONE of the most efficient organs of the radical cause south is the National Re publican, a first class daily published in the city of Augusta, Georgia. THE Copperheads have adopted the apple blossom as a campaign badge, but most of them prefer apple jack—when they can get it. HENRY S. Mortis (Democrat) was arrested at Beemansville, Sussex county, New Jersey, charged with defrauding the government by forged pension papers. ON the fifth inst., a Philadelphia Cop perhead was bitten in the leg by a Bull Terrier dog. The dog died in twenty four hours. NEW YORK City contains forty-eight thousand professional thieves. New York City is Democratic by forty-eight thousand majority. HoN. Wm. M. CONVERSE of Connecti cut, a member of the Democratic State Committee, has announced his determi nation to vote for Grant. A PRIZE-FIGHT came off near West Brookfield, Mass., on Tuesday, for $2OO a side, between Pat Adams and Dan Arnold, both Democrats. THE La Crosse Democrat of the 9th instant, says " Buchanan was a printer." That's enough to astonish even the Sour- Kraut Gorillas of the Eight Ward! A COPPERHEAD exchange denounces Grant as a butcher. Perfectly natural. We never knew of a hog that wasn't down on butchers. PATRICK GALLAGHER, residing in Philadelphia, gave his wife a severe beat ing with a club. Patrick Gallagher is a Dunmicrat. Ix consequence of the proposed reduc tion of tax on whiskey, a number of democrats propose to dispense with the use of milk in their families. RALPINz (Miles O'Reilly) supporta Grant. Wu= lived and died a Democrat. BRICK POMEROY. Bftj the Democracy is the white man' party. " Want to know." THE Press says the quest of the Dem ocracy for a Presidential candidate is the pursuit of bniAsui under difficulties. THE Omahataraki says Senator Grimes isgoing to talp the strap against Grant. Who cares fotDld Grimes? DEMOCRATIC enthusiasm means a gen eral drunk on,*ry bad whiskey. ALL the wsses subpoenaed for Sur ratt are Demoefats. total Athos. THE (; );11) TEMPLA ItS.—The Grand ! Lodge of nd Templars of Pennsylva nia lo.ld i_- annual meeting last week at Williamsport. The live hundred and twenty Lodges in the State were nearly all represented. According to the report of the Grand Secretary, Miss L. E. Wright, over two hundred new Lodges were in stituted during the year, and the revenue of the Grand Lodge amounted to about $22.000. Iron. Simeon B. Chase, of Sus quehanna, was elected G. W. Chief Tem 'liar, at a salary of $3OOO, and Miss Wright was re-elected W. Grand Secretary by a large majority. It was also determined to change the "Monthly Circular," pub , hshed by the Grand Lodge, and edited by Miss Wright, into a weekly paper, as the official organ of the Order. GETTYSBURG ORPHAN HOMEiTEAD.— Rev. Thomas Atkinson, Agent for the Soldiers' and Sailors' Homestead at Get tysburg, addressed a meeting of Sunday School teachers and seholas at Fulton Hall, this city, on Sunday afternoon last. The object of his visit is to procure pe cuniary aid for that noble charity. Sub scription cards were distributed, with the request that each one receiving them solicit subscriptions for that institution. The enterprise has no connection, what ever, with any of the lottery schemes which arc daily deceiving the people, but it is a very deserving charity, well worthy the countenance and support of our cit izens. Contributions should be banded to Col. IV. L. Bear, of this city. TILE ANCHOR BOAT CLun.—This gal lant crew launched their handsome four oared boat—the "Black Crook"—on the Conestoga at the railroad bridge, near this city, yesterday afternoon. With the exception of losing the rudder, the launching was a complete success. The "Black Crook" comes up to all the ex pectations of her builders. and we pre dict that she will successfully compete with all rivals. Good luck to the "Black Crook." PERSONAL.—Last week our sanctum was visited by our former townsman, Calvin R. Coleman, who has 'put up" at Kansas City, Missouri. " Cal." has came East for the purpose of making arrange ments to go into business in that flourish ing city. He looks quite well, and "is full of the West." He returns again in a few days. Success to him. CAtmoN.—A large "FATHER ABRA HAM" sign appears on the front of a building in North Fifth street, Reading, which is kept there by the occupants of the premises .for no honorable jn We caution our friends not to be no nosed upon. Our Reading (Mice is at No. CMG Court Street. THE County Sunday School Conven tion, which was in session in this city on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, proved a great success. The County was well represented. Distinguished Sunday School men from Philadelphia,, Baltimore and elsewhere, were present and addressed the Convention. NOTICE.-Allpersons doing business should recollect that all State licenses must be taken out before the first of next month, (July). Those remaining unpaid after that time will be placed by the County Treasurer in the hands of an alderman for collection according tp law. DIAGNOTHIAN ANNIVERSARY.—The Diagnothian Literary Society of Frank lin and Marshal College gave their Thirty-third Anniversary at Fulton Hall, on Friday evening last, to a very large and select audience. The "Dings•' did first-rate. The Grtethians must "pull up" to equal them. QUERlE.—Everybody expected that Mr. Buchanan would no the nice thing for the Children's Home 1 It is said that he promised the ladies when they waited on him for a subscription, that he would provide for it in his will. How is it ? POLITICAL Wiz are authorized to announce the name of GEO.
