MGCLENA -11 EN, aged o'J. years. Dearest father, thou hast left us, Here thy loss We deeply feel ; Rut 'tis God that hath bereft us, He can ail our sorrows heal. Peaceful he thy silent slumber, Peaceful in the grave so low ; Thou no more wilt join our number, Thou no more our songs shalt know. Yet again we hope to meet thee When the day of life is tied, Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee Where no farewell tears are shed, A.M.M. For the Gazette. Passed to her rest in heaven, on Tues day morning, May 21st, Mrs. CATHARINE 11 ARDT, widow of Peter Hurdt, in the; (>7lh year of her age. To her indeed death was a yearned for hour. For five long years previous to her death, her suf ferings had been especially great, and no one visiting her in the chamber of her imprisonment, and witnessing her faded check and hearing her distressing cough, which made the most of her nights sleep less, could have thought years itgrfthat she could possibly have survived so long. Rut what made her exhibit such wonder ful resignation was her simple faith ill the wisdom and goodness of God, that all was ordered for the greatest good, and that even hy patient suflering she was accom plishing the perfect but mysterious will of our great Sovereign. 1f t here are those, too, who think that religion but alarms the dying with needless fears, as some profess, they should have visited this now sainted mother, and have seen what a spring of never-failing joy it was to her, that she could always look with perfect confidence to the hour of her death, as the morning of eternal deliverance from pain, sorrow and tears. Of this christian mother, it may well be said that her life was complete. She raised successfully a large family —she lived iu the fear of iier God from her youth (being received into the church at llanoyer in her 17th year hy instruction in the catechism ann the solemn rite of confirmation,) and in tlie Lutheran church of Lewistown, under Rev. Mr. Sehmucker, about 142, and fi nally her work was perfected amid the fires of sufiering and trial. After a half century of such a profession of Christ, and such a life-work as this, might she not say with her (Saviour, as she took her last farewell of earth, "1 have glorified thee on earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self." Her uniform kindness to, and tender regard for her pastor, made his visits to her ever delightful, and formed a cherished tie of christian affection, which is not broken by the temporary separa tion of death. She had long expected and prayed for death, and when it came, she met it with perfect calmness and cou rt lence. On Thursday afternoon she was buried am id a large concourse of mourning friends in the Kishacoqujllas Cemetery, and according to the beautiful language ot the Lutheran service for the dead, com mitted to those peaceful shores, where the pious dead "cannot die any more, tor they are equal vith the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection."
