Cream Beer. —Prepare a syrup thus .
Into 3 pints of water, put -i lbs. white
Bucar, 2 ounces tartaric acid, tncjincc
of half a lemon, and boil together live
minutes. JThen stir into it •) cup of
flour previously mixed up with some
water. When nearly cold, add the
whites of 3 eggs well beaten, and \ oz
essence of wintergreen. Put into a
. bottle and keep in a cool place. It is
ready for use at once, but improves
with age. To use, dissolve 2 table
spoonfuls of this in a tumbler of water,
and stir in J teaspoonful ot soda Al
ways shake the bottle well before

Wedding Cake. —(Pronounced excel
lent at a great many weddings, says
the contributor, whose name is not on
the sheet with this and sundry other
recipes kept for publication as we have
room): 1 lb. flour, 2 lbs. raisins seeded
and chopped, 2 lbs..currants, f lb. cit
ron. 1 lb. sugar, | ib. butter, 10 eggs,
2 wine glasses brandy. Stir sugar and
butter to a cream, add yolks of eggs,
then spices, then the flour in which
has been rubbed 2 teafpoorituls cream
of tartar and 1 of soda; then the fruit,
and lastly the whites of the eggs be ,l
en to a froth. The spices are, 1 table
spoonful ground cinnamon, 1 grated
nutmeg, and 1 teaspoonful cloves. The *
loaves require from one to two hours <
baking.
Jelly Cake. —Mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup ■
milk, 1 cup sugar, i cup butter,2eggs, j
1 teaspoonful soda and 2of cream of
tartar. Divide into six parts, and ;
spread each as thin as possible in pans !
of uniform size. Bake about three
minutes; when done, lay together with
layers of jelly between ; cover the up
per layer with plenty of sugar sprink
led on. or with a thin frosting.— Con- ■■

pudding must be nice, if one has plenty
of cheap eggs. We should want some
sugar on it. Our home manuscript
book calls this recipe "Sunderland
Pudding."

riugs for closing Fruit Cans, some have thought to
drift into the same current of success by infringing
upon my patent. Some cans longer patented than
mine, on which guin had been used under their pat
ent arrangement, are now making their appearance
with cemented paper rings, instead of the gum form
erly used.
In most cases such infringements take place thro'
persons not responsible, who take orders IU country
stores, while the manufacturers in the cities have for
the most part concealed their work. This is to notify
the public that the use of cemented paper, pressed
upon the top of a fruit can, during tiie heated state
ol the fruit, so that when cold it is perfectly sealed, is
an infringement upon my rights. unless used upon a
can having a cup with my name stamped upon it. Anv
kind of cement upon this paper, undergoing a pro
cess o£ pressure during the. cooling of the fruit,"comes
