or two boys, not too young,

the printing business.
THE DRAFT. —We fear our citizens
generally are making a great mistake
in not devising ways and means to fill
the quota of this borough. Though
we have no official data to go upon,
our estimate is that our quota will be
about 34, and if we have a surplus as
reported it will be reduced to perhaps
31.
ITEMS.—A son of Mrs. Elizabeth Ja
cobs was knocked down by one of the
horses attached to Graham's sled, on
Monday forenoon, while standing on
Market street, and fell between the
runners, making a very narrow escape
from serious injury. He was taken to
Judge liit'z drug store, where Dr. At
kinson examined him, and fortunately
found no bones broken. The boy bad
his back towards the horses, which
came down street at a full trot.
Monday was greeted by all classes as
a pleasant day. Several fights oc
curred on Monday, one countryman
having his eye bruised badly. We
learn that a letter has been received
from Ilenry A. Eisenbise, from which
it appears he is a prisoner at Salisbury,
N. C. Capt. A. B. Selheimer is re
cruiting a company for one year's ser
vice, which is fast filling up.

Dr. Velpau's French Pills.
Ladies, take Particular Notice.
THE REAL VELPAU FEMALE PILL.
[WARRANTED FRENCH.]
nTGIESE Pills, so celebrated many years
A ago in Paris for the relief of female ir
regularities, and afterward so notorious fur
their criminal employment in the practice of
abortion, are now offered for sale for the first
time in America. They have been kept in
comparative obscurity, from the fact that the
originator. Dr. Velpau, is a physician in Paris
of great wealth and strict conscientious prin
ciples, and has withheld them from general
use, lest they should be employed for unlaw
ful purposes. In overcoming Female Obstruc
tions, Falling of the Womb, Whites, Green
Sickness, Suppression, Retention or Immod
erate Flow of the Monthly Discharges, they
seem to be truly omnipotent, bursting open
the flood gates from whatever cause may have
stopped them ; but they are offered to the pub
lic only for legitimate uses, and all agents are
forbidden to sell thenT when it is understood
that the object is unlawful. Married ladies
should never take them when there is any
reason to believe themselves pregnant, for they
will be sure to produce a miscarriage.
These pills are entirely safe under all cir
cumstances, being composed entirely of sub l
stances from the vegetable kingdom.
Each box has the coat ot arms for the city
of Paris stamped on the box, with the words
" Trade Mark" in French, to counterfeit which
is a misdemeanor, and all persons will be
dealt witli according to law.
ftsg-Full directions accompany every box.
Ladies can obtain a box sealed from the
eyes of the curious, by inclosing One Dollar
and six post office stamps to any respectable
druggist, or to O. G. STAPLES. General
