DEFICIENCY DRAFT —By a notice among the advertisements it will be seen that a draft is to be made on Sat urday next to supply the deficiencies in several districts in this county. We do not know exactly whence these fig ures come, hut suppose that they arise from surplusses in the first draft which were loaned to these districts and are now thrown back where they original ly belonged, leaving the borrowers to make them up. It is a matter of much regret that those who have these things in charge at. Harrisburg or Washington cannot devise some mode by which such annoyances may be j avoided, and a definite number for : ; each district at once fixed, as it is by ' 1 no means pleasant to be told after a draft has already been made to fill a quota that another is necessary ! We f hope some member ol Congress will | present this matter to the President and see whether this "after-clap busi ness" cannot be stopped hereafter. aeSA The stage from Bellefonte was upset one day last week near Centre Hall, and some of the passengers, (among whom were Rev. SENATORIAL CANDIDATE Mr. Editor- The Republicans of this Sen atonal District will soon be called upon to select two of their number as candidates for the office of State Senator. It may be truly affirmed that the claims of our county for one of these candidates are equal to those of any county in the District. In view of these facts, allow me to recommend through your columns the name of D. W. WOODS, esq., as a suitable person to fill that responsible, and at the present time vitally important trust As a candidate he would be acceptable to the Republicans of the entire district, and if elected would make a faithful and zealous defender of the true interests of our country. J Subscriptions to these Bonds are received in United States notes or notes of National Banks. They are 1" BL REDEEMED IN COIN, at the pleasure of the Government, at any period not less than ten nor more than forty years from their date, and until their redemption FIVE PER CENT. INTEREST WILL BE 1 AID IN COIN, on Bonds of not over one hun dred dollars annually and on all other Bonds semi annually The interest is payable on the first days of March and September in each year. Subscribers will receive either Registered or Cou pon Bonds, as they may prefer. Registered Bonds are recorded on the books of the U. S. Treasurer, and can be transferred only on the owner's order. Cou pon Bonds are payable to bearer, and are more con venient for commercial uses. Subscribers to this loan will have the option of hav ing their Bonds draw interest from March Ist, by paying the accrued interest in coin—(or in United States notes, or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty per cent, for premium.) or receive them drawing interest from the date of subscription and deposite. As these Bonds are Exemp! from Municipal or Slate Taxation, their value is increased from one to three per cent, per annum, according to the rate of tax levies in va rious parts of the country. At the present rate of premium on gold they par Over Eight Per Cent. Interest in currency, and are of equal convenience as a per manent or temporary investment. It is believed that no-securities offer so great induce ments to lenders as the various descriptions of U. S. Bonds. In ail other forms of indebtedness, the faith or ability of private parties or stock companies or separate communities only is pledged for payment, wiide for the debts of the United States the whole property o the country is hohicn to secure the pay ment of both principal and interest in coin. These Bonds may be subscribed for in sums from 5-30 up to any magnitude, on the same terms, and are thus made equally available to the smallest lender and the largest capitalist. They can be converted into money at any moment, and the holder will have the benefit of the interest. It may be useful to state in this connection that the total funded Debt of the I niled .Stales on which in terest is payable in gold, on the 3d day of March. 1564, was $768,965,000. The interest on this debt for the coming fiscal year will he $45.937,126., while the cus toms revenue in gold for the current fi . al year, ending June 3 m. 1864, libeeu so far at the rate of over slti.'.otv ' p"? annum. It will be seen that even the present gold revenues of the Government are largely in excess of the wants of the I reasury for the payment of gold nit. iv.-t, while the recent increase of the tat ill'w i'l doubtless raise the annual receipts from customs on the same amount ot importations, to $150.(>00,000 per annum. Instructions to the National Banks acting as loan agents were not issued from the United States Treas ury until March 26, but iu the first three weeks of April the subscriptions averaged more than TEN MILLIONS A WEEK. Subscriptions will be received by the First National Bank of Philadelphia, Pa. Second National Bank of Philadelphia. Pa. Third National Bank of Philadelphia. Pa.
