muMmmmm From the Sunday School Times. "I WANT TO HE AN ANGEL.." Swfft hymn among the children's hymn*! So dearly, widely known. How tnany little ones hare loved To take thee for their own; Have loved to lift their childish note* In bird-like clearness sweet. To blend with an ••els' songs of praise Around the Mercy Scat! Sweet hymn among the children's hymns! Thy name a household word— At lightest cadence of ihy tune How many hearts are stirred I How wakened echoes answer back And heart and eyes o'erflow. At thought of little ones that'stand Among the angels now! On record of the Sunday school A name I sometimes see: We've not ths heart to blot it out, We fain would let it he; A link between her pure child soul Aud us, we scarce know how: It seem* that little pencilled name Is name of angel now. We see the little gleeful face, Wo mind the loving ways, The clinging clasp, the ready trust, And shine of summer days. When, ever as her pet, and charge, In childish sport and joy. With thoughtfti! brow, beside herplaved Sweet Eddie, infant boy. ' I want to be an angel' oft She song in broken strains, And he would gather every word, With careful childish pains ' Me want to be an angel, too!' And then a laugh would ring, As fondly kissing him she'd say 'Why, Eddie cannot sing!' IV ith childhood's clinging earnestness, And a persistence sweet 'Ve want to be an angel:' still Each time he would repeat. Ah I they knew not that the angels Were teaching spirit lore. That their snow-white wings were beek'ning From yonder heavenly shore 1 They whispered -little Nellie,' first. •From suffering bore her home; The baby brotner wistful searched The shadow's darkened gloom, Looked in upon the pillow, but To find an empty place; And oft would ask • Where Nellie was!' With weary, wandering guze. Then childlike, sweetly trusting. With no thought of doubt or fear, Heard he now the augel-yhisper, Felt a gentle presence near; And perchance as o'er the river Swift the loving angel bore, 'Mong the white-robed saw his Nellie As she reached the shining shore. Little forms, fair, broken caskets, Whence the spirit pure had tied, On one priiow strewn with blossom* Seemed ye not as of the dead.' But as young immortals straying. Sweet child-spirits, fresh and pure, 'Mong the springing heavenly blossoms W here the fairest flowers endure. O. offering sweet of praises I List! hear the anthems ring! And Nellie hears how sweetlv Little Eddie now can sing : * For blessed, pure and holy, They dwell in Jesus' sight, And with ten thousand thousands Praise him both day and night.' •They never will be weary, Nor ever shed a tear, Nor ever know a sorrow, Nor ever fee! a fear.' O, hymn among the children's hymns, So loved, aud widely known, 'Tis sweet in loving memories To make thy words our own. JI. J'vrt Kent, y. Y. THE RECIPES. From Peterson's Masaziue. Notice to Owners of Unseated Lands. HTHE Commissioners request all owners of _L Unseated Lands, whether regularly as- < sessed or not, immediately to furnish them ! with the number of acres, name of warrantee, and whom adjoining, for the purpose of reg- j istenng the same in this office, so as to avoid all diffculty hereafter in advertising such lands at Treasurer's Sales. At present it is impossible to tell whether certain lands are regukrly assessed as the transcripts do not Rive the names of warrantees. It may not be amiss to state that owners of Unseated lands are required by law to make return as above, and that on failure thereof the Com missioners are directed to add four times the amount of tax assessed thereon GEO. FRYSINGER, Clerk. Commisioners* Office, Lewistown, March IC. ISC4, " Miscegenation'' in Richmond The following we suspect will not be found in the Lewistown Patent Demo crat : [From the Richmond Whig of the 18th March.] Anno Edward, alias Finn, and Ellen and Margaret Brown, three able-bo died, almost white mulattoes, were yesterday arrested by officer Ferrin the tirst charged with violently abu sing one James Smith, the two latter for being from Outyeper county and having no free papers. These women wore arrested by our troops in Cul peper shortly after the battle of Cedar Mountain, and sent to Richmond on some charge affecting their loyalty. For a considerable length of time they were kept in Castle Thunder, and then turned out in the city. They took up their abode in an old rattletrap of a house in Exchange alley, where they have been leading loose and very dis reputable lives. When arrested yesterday, they rep resented themselves as the special pro teges of the Government, at least of some of the Government officers here. They say they have been drawing reg ular rations, and sugar, coffee and mo lasses from the Government. If this is a fact, it is a disgraceful one. Three idle mulattoes, supported in vice and idleness by the Government, whilst thousands of our best citizens, who have been driven from their homes bv the enemy, want bread for themselves and their children ! Nor the following which we find in a number of exchanges : A Democratic Item. —The Vallandigham j family entertain feelings of admiration, i not to say love, for the negro race in j general, the female sex in particular, that : is incredible. The race has furnished the i stock in trade and the speech inspiring j theme of the Ohio martyr for a number j of years. Hut the younger members of the family outstrip him in their affections i for the 'down trodden African.' I'eriey Vallandigham, 'a youth to fortune and to fame unknown,' nevertheless a nephew of the great Ohio martyr, is married to ! and lives with a negro woman in this city. !
