When my heart is o'erwhelmed with sorrow and care, From the ends of the earth unto Thee will I cry, " Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." Vviien Satan, the tempter, conies in like a llood. And wonld draw my poor soul from the fountain of good, I will gird on my armor, in faith loud I'll cry, " Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." When sickness o'erwhelms me, and pain Is severe, And none be about to comfort and clieer, I will pray to my Saviour, who for me did die. " Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." And when I have ended my pilgrimage here, In Jesus' pure righteousuess may I appear' In the swellings of Jordan assured I'll rely Upon Jesus, the Rock that is higher than I. And when the last trump shall sound through the skies. And the dead from the dust of the earth shall arise. With the miHions I'll Join, far above yonder sky, To praise the dear Rock that is higher than I. &srfcultural* szc. WEEDS IN GARDENS. Nearly every garden is infested with a number of unnecessary weeds, and that chiefly because they are allowed to go to seed before any serious attempt is made to exterminate them. A single plant often has a hundred or more seeds with which to propogate its kind. V hat folly, then, to complain of weeds, if we allow them to sow themselves broad cast over our gardens! If our needs were I perennial plants, like the Canada thistle j and quick-grass, the case would be differ- ! en ; bn■ they are mostly aunuals which : need only to be k pt from ripening their seeds to secure their extirpation. In Chi-, na, and some portions of Europe, weeds in : gardens are said to be almost unknown, ! simply as the result of long continued cul tivation. A certain count}' in Pennsvlva nia is reputed to have rid itself of the Canada thistle, and there are gardens here and there, in our neighborhood, in which weeds are comparatively strangers. Seeds i we know, will steal over and from adjoin ing fields into the best managed gardens; j but their number will be comparatively ! small, and the labor of keeping them in subjection not great, if none are allowed to go to seed in the garden itself. J This will certify that I have this day inspected two separate lots of Catawba lirandy, one in barrels and one in boll les, manufactured by Lauritze Lyons, and sold by his sole agent, J. Jacob, at the Depot, No. 9a, opposite the Burnet House, and 113 West Third street, Cincinnati, and find them both PI RE and FREE from all poisonous or deleterious drugs, and as such have marked the same as the law directs. Given under my hand at my office. [Signed.] HIRAM Cox, M D., Inspector of Alcoholic Liquors, Ac. NEW YORK, 93 Prince st., July 28, 1857. Dear Sir I have received a bottle of Lyons' Pure Ohio Calawha Brandy, furnished by Mr. A. Ralston, Jr., of Lockport, N. Y„ for anal)zation, and I find it to con- i tain only those ingredients which exist in PLRB BRANDV. ! The proportion of alcohol obtained from it is 47.0(1. 1 j believe this sample to be pure Brandy without adultera- 1 tion—the flavor of it is delicate and peculiar. [Signed.] JAS. R. CHILTON, M. D , Chemist. The OHIO CATAWBA BRANDY not only equals but even eiieli the best imported Brandies in purity and flavor. It is in fact the BEST Brandy known. This statement is fully corroborated by the certificates of many of our most distinguished analytical Chemists. The want of pure Brandy has long been felt in this coun try, and the introduction of an article of such quality as to supersede the sale and use of those vile compounds hitherto sold uuderthe name of Brandy, can only be re garded as a great public good. The Catawba Brandy possesses all the good qualities claimed for the best im ported liquor, and is of perfect purity and superior flavor. It Is therefore fully entitled to the patronage of the pub lie. We feel confident that its reception in this Stale will be as favorable as that which it has met with in the Great West, and that the lime is not far distant when the superiority of our own liquors will put an end to their importation from abroad. For Medicinal purposes this Brandy has no rival, and ! has long been needed. It Is a sovereign and sure reme dy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, I.ow Spirits, Languor, General Debility, Ac. Having submitted it, with an explanation of its compo nents, to a number of physicians of Philadelphia, among whom were the late I>rs. Joseph Hartshorne and J. C. Morton, it lias received their entire approval, and many of ihe medical faculty are now not only prescribing it for their patients but are using it themselves, personalty and in their families. As a tonic it is unequalled, and its properties are of so invigorating a nature that it is given with perfect safety and success tothe most tender infants. The Elixir is very gradual, but certain in its action upon the organs of digestion, the increased secretions of the liver, pancreas and mucous membranes of the stomach, and requires that only one dose be taken in twenty-four hours; for confirmed Dyspepsy can only be cured by 'grad uathj restoring the organs of digestion to a healthy state The great success met with in curing the most aggravated cases of Dyspepsy, accompanied sometimes with a high grade of hypochondriasis, lias established the most un bounded confidence in Ihe curative properties of this Elixir, in corroboration of which read the following testi monials : ATTESTATION —We, having used Williams' Ami Dys peptic Elixir wilh the moat perfect satisfaction and suc cess, take great pleasure in recommending it to all per sons suffering with Dyspepsy, as we are fully convinced of its most estimable qualities in restoring the digestive powers, removing all pains and uneasiness, and impart ing a healthy tone to the stomach.
