Welsh Rabbit. —Cut up half a pound of
new cheese, put in a lump of butter as
large as an egg, a teaspoouful of mustard;
set it over the fire in a tin pan, stirring till
thoroughly melted ; have ready two pieces
of bread toasted, spread the melted cheese
thicklv over the toast, place it before the
fire to brown and serve hot.
(wueni Pumpkin Pie. Without
One quart of boiling milk, two soda or Bos
ton crackers rolled fine, put to the boiling
milk two teacups of strained boiled pump
kin. a little salt, one cup of sugar, extract
of lemon, a little ginger. If this quantity
will not make two pies, put in a little cold
milk. Bake in a hot oven.
Preferred Pumpkin. —Cut a good pump
kin in strips like citron, sprinkle sugar on
them over night, pound for pound, and the
juice of four lemons; in the morning boil
the peel and a little ginger root, and add
to the syrup. Boil the pumpkin till ten
der, then turn on the syrup boiling hot.
Wetldim/ Cake. —One pound of flour,
one pound of sugar, one pound of butter,
two pounds of raisins stoned, three pounds
of currants well washed, one and a quarter
ounce of mace, one ounce of nutmeg, one
and a quarter pounds of citron, half a gill
of brandy, a lew cloves. Bake in large
loaves three hours.
Cream Fritters. —Beat six eggs until
quite light, then stir in one pint of cream,
one teaspoonful of salt, half a grated nut
meg, and sifted flour enough to make a
thin batter; stir it until it becomes smooth,
then drop it by spoonfuls into hot lard, and
•: and serve.
Mousse* Pie. —Take nine tablespoonfuls
of molasses, six tablespoonfuls of good vin
egar, one and a half tablespoonfuls of flour,
a small pieee of butter, a few slices of lem
uu or grated lemon peel; cover with a rich
paste. This is decidedly the best substi
tute for apple pie.
Snour Bull Pudding. —Pare and core
large, mellow apples, and enclose them sep
arately iu a cloth spread with boiled rice;
boil them one hour; dip them in cold water
before turning out. Serve them with cream
sauce.
(''rocker Pie. —T wo soda crackers soaked
in one cup of warm water, one small tea
spoonful of tartaric acid or lemon juice,
one cup of sugar. Season and bake as an
apple pie.

ity will be afforded to male and female pupils
for the acquisition of a 3olid and ornamental
education. Its friends and patrons may rest
assnred that every effort will be made to in
crease its growing reputation and render it
worthy of the confidence and patronage of all.
Parents who wish their children removed as far
as possible from temptation and the scenes of
vice and immorality so common to large towns
and small villages, could not desire a better lo
cation, as it is entirely in the country, and i here
are no public houses where !i<juor it sold with
in five miles of the institution. The assistants
employed are eminently qualified by (heir edu
cation and ability for their profession. Lec
tures will be delivered on History, Geology,
Anatomy, and other scientific subjects.
TEKMS.— Boarders, $55.00 per session of 21
weeks, $27.50 payable in advance. For this
sum the student is entitled to Board, Tuition
and Furnished Rooms. Orphans and the daugh
ters of clergymen are charged half price for
the English Branches. Light. Fuel and Wash
ing atttoe expense of the student. The usual
charges made for Music and the Languages.
The Pennsylvania Cential Railroad, which
connects with Baltimore, Philadelphia, New
York and Pittsburg, passes through Lewistown
ten miles from the Seminary, at which place
students take the coach for Reedsville, and
there conveyances may be procured, or if noti
fied, the Principal will meet them with a con
