ATTEMPT ON A KING'S LIFE. The news that an attempt lias been made to destroy the principal King of Si am, has reached ua bv way of Calcutta. The facts will be learned from the follow ing narrative, forwarded from Rangoon to a Calcutta cotempomry :—" The King of Siam was invited, about two months ago, to an entertainment by one of his richest subjects, on a very grand scale. The King at once accepted, though it was not in accordance with national custom for his majesty of Bankok to accept hospitality ; at the hands of any subject; yet the grand scale of the preparations induced him to commit, on this occasion, a breacit of roy al etiquette. The king's brother however had his suspicions about this grand enter tainment, and advised the king not to go, feeling certain that it was intended to do ■ eomc grievous bodily harm to him. The king, having accepted, did not like to be trav symptoms of distrust, perhaps with out cause; so he resolved on an expedient which was to send, dressed in his usual royal attire, which may be presumed as prescribed for such an occasion, would be so bulky and extensive as to greatly con-' ceal the person, a courier who very* much resembled the King in height, rigure, and face. The hour tixed for the King to go to the assembly was about midnight; the pseudo king accordingly, followed by the regal retainers and men of the court, ar- ( rived at that hour, and was at once con- . ducted to a throne prepared for his majes ty. No sooner had he seated himself than | the whole 3tTair blew up, destroying this man who had been uufortunate enough to be like the ktng, and seven other persons who stood near the throne. Thus was the King of Slant's life saved by the aga ei'.y of his brother; and a valuable life is his, for he is a very enlightened man for an Asiatic, and cart write a letter himself in English. Whether this narrative, which is believed to be strictly true, lias appeared in the Calcutta or other Indian papers, the writer of these Fines knoweth not." r§""nie words, - out of," are the worst of the language; when one is out of pa-' tience and out of money ; when his wife says site is out of sugar one day. out of coffee the next, out of flour the next, and finally out ot sp.rits. i'he words are verv gvJ when or.e is out of debt, out of trouble 3nd out ol jail.
