I |S SB GAZETTE. H VKKIAG R SENATOR DOUG- , LAS. WASHINGTON, NOV. 20.—Our Thanks ivine to-day was signalized at 2 o'clock, i v marriage of Senator Douglas, of Lois, to Miss Ada Cults, of Washington, ficr which the married couple took the Irars for their future residence, in Chicago. I The bride was accompanied to the altar v several bridesmaids; but the Senator, 1 §t-jng a widower, went alone. Only a few ( jtj- ins personal friends, including General and Senator Siidell were present, fl'he marriage ceremony was performed by • Father 11 vrue, of tlie Roman Catholic IChurch, in the religion of which the bride |was educated, at Georgetown Nunnery. Senator Douglas, himself, is not known to \ have anv decideil leaning towards any re- ' | haious faith, though some of his friends f draw a favorable inference from his recent I land donation to a Baptist College in Chi f cngo. f hi the matter of age and personal beau tv tliere is a wide difference between the bridegroom and the bride. Miss Cutis is .-.all, elegantly formed, with a sweet, oval face, large brown eyes, and small Grecian forehead, anouud which are entwined the { •heavy braids of her glossy and abundant j chesnut hair. On her clear, peachy coin •eoinplexion there is a perpetual war ol sroses—the red and the white—each failing , to maintain a sole supremacy. Altogether i her tout ensemble , as the flunkeys say, i fully vindicates die good taste of the ''Lit tle Giant.'' Miss Cutts may lie twenty-two years of -],rc. Iler failier, James Madison Cutis,! an officer in one of the departments at Washington, is a nephew of Mrs. l'resi ■dent Washington. As for Mr. Douglas, everybody ought to be familiar with his antecedents and ' appearance. In point of years, he has decidedly the advantage of his bride, being about twice as old. 11l person he is short and stocky. Mr. Douglas is said to be worth at least •one hundred thousand dollars, the result of -fortunate speculation in Chicago lots, aside from the property, m-'Stly in Louisiana ; plantations, left for his two little boys by Jiis first wife—.V. i . J'ost. CURIOUS EFFECT Of a Powder Mill's Explosion. —The explosion of the Acton I'owder Mills ex ceeded in its terrific effects any previous one. But two lives were lust. One man was torn into fragments. The second was thrown to a great distance and stripped of •everything but his India rubber shoes.— Boor fellow 1 lie had been at the danger ous work but one day. I'hc mill lb it first exploded was running with u> one in it at the moment. W hen tins went off, the air 'vas filled with flying, blazing timber, j which in an instant communicated to two j others. In one of these were the two un- ! fortunate men who were killed. The oth er mill, the dry house, had but little pow- j tier in it, which blew oti the roof; it then j took iire and was consumed A fourth mill had two hundred kegs of powder in side, which was not ignited, although the centre hoarding was stripped off and manv 1 beams broken. Two men were at work in the wheil pit, and crawled out in the < stunning .noise to see the fragments flying m all directions. It was an awful specta cle. Three mills exploded. The wind was verv high and the woods took fire.— It was expected that the shattered mili from whirl) the men had escaped would lihw mp everv moment. The fire was seen witliin a rod of it. ami tin* powder was •exposed to the le st spark. Alter watch- ' ing it for some time, a man, at tiie hazard ! of his life, took a bucket of water, and j crawled on his hands and knees to where the lire was blazing, and extinguished it. , J'. seems a little >tuaui -r that from every building the pressure was outward. Boards , -were broken out, windows fell out; one tfront door of a large house, a quarter of a ! mile distant, burst out. A window in a j barn, :t mile from the mills, broke out. — Great damage was done to ne ghboring buildings. I saw a chimney that was af fected furiously. It was set of! on one .side towards the nidi? just one brick, and ; Jt ft standing. .1 //•//'/ //|{ ING HOUSE, Frame Stable, a £Slaughter House, Ice House and oilier buildings thereon erected. Dr. Sanford's Invigorator never debilitates. Dr. Sanford— Dear Sir : —it affords me pleas, ure to write you respecting your Invigorator, inasmuch as 1 can speak of it in the highest terms. The difficulty with myself was an affec tion of the liver, which produced in my entire system general lassitude. Hearing of your liquid compound, I was induced to make appli cation for a bottle. 1 have tried it, and find it to work like a charm. I am truly glad to learn you are about to bring the Invigorator before the public. If what 1 have now said can be used in the way of recommendation, you are at liberty so to employ it. lam con vinced that the medicine only requires to be known to be appreciated. Respecfully yours, Ac., J. M. WAITE Ravenswood, L. 1., Dec. 29, 185 G. 1)K. SANFORO — AIii Dear Sir : — I am glad to learn you have commenced putting up your valuable INVIGORATOR in large quantities, for 1 long felt that it ought to be possessed by every family. 1 can most cheerfully add my testi mony to the efficacy of your valuable, medieine. Five or six years since, 1 found myself running down with a liver difficulty—resorting to your Invigorator, was grcally relieved, and, contin uing tor a short season, was entirely restored. For bilious attacks, sick headache, and also as a Family Medicine, I consider it valuable.— Wishing you great success in distributing this public blessing, 1 am. Sir, truly yours, JOHN C. MALLORY. ma3:3m? 1G Wall St., New York. THE GREATEST MEDICAL DISCOVERY OF THE AGE. DR. KENNEDY, of Roxbory, has discovereQ in one of OOF common pasture weeds a remedy that cures Every Kind of Humor from the worst Scrofula down to a common Pimple. Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case of Scrof j ula A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quanti j ty is taken Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. I know thee (feci of it in every case. So sure as water will extinguish fire, sosure will this cure humor. I never sold a bottle of it but that sold an other; after a trial it always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appears to me sur prising; first that it grows in our pastures, in some pla ces quite plentiful, and yet its value lias never been j known until I discovered it in lb 16—second, that it should i cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of the sudden rise and great j popularity of the discovery, I will slate that in April, | 1533.1 peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—in > April, ISSI. Isold over one thousand bottles per day of it. | Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been in j business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the i annals of patent medicines was ever like . There is a universal praise of it from all quarters. I In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors f —but since its- introduction asa general family medicine, great and wonderful virlues have been found in it that 1 never suspected. Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease which was always considered incurable, have been cured by a few bottles. O, what a mercy if it will prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are few who have seen morn of it than I have. I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged people, cured by it. For liie various diseases of the Fiv er, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly iti diseases of the Kidneys, &.C., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best you get and plenty of it.
