Proposals for Building a Dam.
[PROPOSALS will be received until the Ist
of January next for building a
Stone or Crib Dam,
390 fee-t long and 11 feet high, across the
Kisiiacoquillas at Mann's Axe Factory in the
Narrows. Plan and specifications can be seen
at the Factory on or after the loth of Novem
ber. The darn is to be built between the Ist
August and middle of September 1850.
Proposals will also be received at the same
time for a quantity of masonry and carpenter's

of it, as he thinks he can afford to give more
than any other person in the placet the mill
being situated on the creek, where flour can
be loaded out of the mill into boats, and all ex
pense of hauling, storing, and shipping saved ;
besides, the flour is in better order, as the bar- '
rels are not injured by hauling and handling.
If wheat brings a better price than it will af
ford to grind, he lias the same chance of ship
ping it as any other, as the mill is the most j
convenient storehouse in the place, and saves
a great deal of tune and labor in hoisting by

gust unless disposed of sooner
When the receipt is given thequality of the
wheat will be mentioned in it, so as to prevent
any trouble when the owner comes to sell.
Any person storing, having four hundred bush
els and upwards, and desires it, it will be kept
in a garner by itself. Any person taking a re
ceipt, ami not selling belore, or giving notice
to keep if, till alter the first of August, it will
be carried out to their credit ut the market
price on that day. If shipped, or sold to anv
person that does not get it ground in the mill,
TWO cents per bushel STORAGE will be charged.
If they give notice, and keep it over after the
first of August, the storage will be ONE-HALF
cent per month, afterwards. The grain will
be cicar from high water.
The subscriber will keep

of all kinds, which will be sold low for cash to
Farmers, by the quantity.

cine in University College, London, Consulting Physi
cian to the Hospital for consumption, Ac., says : 1 have
prescribed the Oil in above four hundred cases of tubercu
lous disease of die l.ungs, ill different stages, which have
been under my care the last two years and a half. In
the large number of cases, 206 out of 234, its use was fol
lowed by marked and unequivocal improvement, varying
in degree in different cases, from a temporary retarda
tion of the progress of the disease and a mitigation of dis
tressing symptoms, up to a more or less complete restor
ation to apparent health.
" The effect of the Cod Liver Oil in most of these cases
was very remarkable. Even in a few days the cough
was mitigated, die expectoration diminished in quantity
and opacity, the night sweats ceased, the pulse became
slower, and of better volume, and the appetite, flesh and
strength were gradually improved.
"In conclusion, I repeat that the pure fresh oil from
the Liver of the Cod is more beneficial in the treatment
of Pulmonary Consumption than any agent, medicinal,
dietetic or regimenal, that Has yet been employed."

The Capital being paid up and invested, together wilh
accumulated premium fund, affords a perfect security to
the insured. The premium may be paid in yearly, half
yearly, or quarterly payments.
The Company add a BONUS at stated periods to the
insurances for life. This plan of insurance is the most
approved of, and is more generally in use than any oiher
in Great Britain, (where the subject is best understood by
the people, and where they have had the longest experi
ence,) as appears from the fact that out of 117 Life Insu
rance Companies theie, of all kinds, 87 are on this plan.
The first BONUS was appropriated in December, 1b44,
ani iunliii to 10 per cent, on the sum insured under the
oldest policies ;to per cent., 74 per cent tec., &c ,on
others, in proportion to the time of standing, making an
addition of $100; SB7 50; S7O, ice., Ac., to every $101)0,
originally insured, which is an average of more than 50
per cent, on the premiums paid, and without increasing
the annual payment to ihe company.
The rqteration of the Bonus will he seen by the follow
ing examples from the Life Insurance Register of the
Company, thus :
