RESOLUTION
Relative to an Amendment of the
Constitution.
1) L.SOLV ED hy ilu Senate and House of Repre
of lite Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
in General jissembly met, That the Constitution
ol tiiis Commonwealth be amended in the se
cond section of the fifth article, so that it shall
read as follows : The Judges of the Supreme
Court, of the several Courts of Common Pleas,
and of such other Courts of Record as are or
shall he established bv law, shall he elected by
the qualified electors of the Commonwealth in
the manner following, to wit: The Judges of
the. Supreme Court, by the qualified electors of
the Commonwealth at large. The President
Judges of the several Courts of Common Picas
and of such other Courts of Record as are or
shall he established hy law, and all other Judges
required to he learned in the law, by the quali
fied electors of the respective districts over
which they are to preside or act as Judges.
And the Associate Judges of the Courts of Com
mon Pleas by the qualified electors of the coun
ties respectively. The Judges of the Supreme
Court shall hold their offices for the term of fif
teen years, if they shall so long behave them
selves well: (subject to the allotment hereinaf
ter provided for, subsequent to the first elec
tion :) The President Judges of the several
Courts of Common Pleas, and of such other
courts of Record as are or shall he established
by law, and all other Judges required to be
learned in the law, shall hold their offices for
the term of ten years, if they shall so long be
have themselves well: The Associate Judges of
the Courts of Common l'leas shall hold their
offices for the term of five years, if they shall
so long behave themselves well: all of whom
shall be commissioned by the Governor, but for
anv reasonable cause which shall not be suffi
cient grounds of impeachment, the Governor
shall remove any of them on the address of two
thirds of each branch of the Legislature. The
first election shall take place at the general
election of this Commonwealth next after the
adoption of this amendment, and the commis
sions of all the judges who may be then in of
fice shall expire on the first Monday of Decem
ber following, when the terms of the new judges
shall commence. The persons who shall then
be elected Judges of the Supreme Court shall
hold their offices as follows: one of them for
three years, one for six years, one lor nine
years, one for twelve years, and one for fifteen
years ; the term of each to be decided by lot by
the sai'l judges, as soon after the election as
convenient, arid the result certified by them to
the Governor, that the commissions may be. is
sued in accordance thereto. The judge whose
commission will first expire shall be Chief Jus
lice during his term, and thereaftereach judge
whose commission shall first expire shall in
turn be the Chief Justice, and ii two or more
commissions shall expire on the same day, the
judges holding them shall decide by lot which

pening la dcuth, resignation, or otherwise, in
any of the >aii courts, shall be filled by ap
pointment by the Governor, to continue till the

general election. The Judges of the Supreme

of Common Pleas shall, at stated limes, receive

be fixed by law, which -hall not be diminished
during their continuance in office, but they shall
receive no lees or perquisites of office, nor hold
any oilier office of profit under this Common
wealth, or under Hie government of the United
States, or any other State ol this Union. The

monwealth, and the other Judges during their

The advantages possessed here are being
improved to the utmost, with the view of mak
ing this Nursery, in merit, second to none in
the fStale. Every tree is indelibly marked
and i rurranted correct. They will be deliv
ered in Lewistown or at intermediate places
at the low catalogue prices, and warranted
! sound on delivery. If to be shipped, they will
be well packed for the purpose at a moderate
charge.
It is advised that, orders be sent direct to the
Nursery, in preference to purchasing illy as
j sorted trees, from often irresponsible dealers,
at high prices. Such orders, if received in
time, have the first attention.
Season for fall planting, October 20.
A choice collection of the most admired or
namental plants, vines, evergreens, &c. has
been added to the Nursery Catalogues, sent to
all post paid applicants.

Pennsylvania, deceased, that a Wiit of Parti- J

Court e foresaid to the Sheriff of said county
directed, commanding him to summon a Jury
of twelve ll. en, to value and appraise the lands
and tenements of the said John Riden afore
said, deceased, situate in said township of Der
rv, containing 40 acres, more or less. And in
pursu-nce of an order made by the Courtafore
said, I do hereby give pubiic notice to all such
heirs and devisees as reside out of the county
01 Mifflin, that I will hold an Inquest on the ;
said premises and execute said writ of Parti
lion as therein I am commanded, on THURS
