hoods—they always stain the reputation of the man who

I endeavored to secure the services of Mr. Watrous and
others, to put up " i>r. Townsend's Barsaparilla (mean
ing his ) but he "scorned such a proposition." Now this
Is ail false, i never applied to Mr. Watrous in my life,
though ho w as introduced to me by a friend of his, without
solicitation, or u ith any knowledge that such a man was in
eiutence.

This fact alone is enough to satisfy the public that S. P.
Townsend's statements arc fabd, and not to be trusted. It
he will falsify in one thing he wilt in another.

schools in the country, and "practiced medicine for the
last fifteen years !I" 1 stated tills to some of his acquain
tances in New York, and I thought they would split their
tides with laughter. "Why," said they, "he nctei prac
ticed fifteen minutes In his life !Besides he has spent
years of his life as a worker on railroads, canals, and ths
like , and, of course, could have no other practice but with
the pick axe and shovel, and such employment a* all rati;

sick person will ever call for H. P. Townsend's if they

and stages of sickness and disease, as my tjarsaparilla.

Consumption, all female Complaints, as well as disease*
common among children ; and if it not broadly and em
piiaucally demonstrated that my Sarsapanlla will cure, at
least ten cases to his out, 1 will forfeit and pay to any
charitable institution B.K*). But, If it Is shown that mine
will cure ten to bis one, then H. P. shall pay the like sum
of SSOO, In like manner. 1 will give him one year to innko
up his mind, though 1 am confident he will never go Into
the trial, as he shamefully barked out of a similar one only
a frw months ago. The truth Is, my Original SarsapanUa
is so much belter than his, and is gaining so rapidly on the
public, that he Is becoming alarmed, and resorts to the
shamefitl and wicked course of traducing, falsifying,
and abusing me. In loic, vulgar language, although I
never laid a straw In his way, or lifted a linger to his in
jury in my life.. I therefore leave this whole matter with
the public, and let them decide on whose back should bo

advanced a largo sum of money to bring it before the pub

cx posed a single bottle for sale, Mr. 8. P. Townsend has
not ceased to slander, abuse, and hold us up before the
public as " unprincipled men," governed w holly by "cai
uidity "and representing that we were making a "spuri
ous" Sarsaparilla, with the design anil object of selling it
as his, 8. I" article. There never was a more shume
less falsehood than this. We do not make 8. P. Town
send's souring Barsaparilla, neither do we wish to sell
anv as his; we know we have a tar better article In the
Old Vr's Original Sarsttparilla, anil wo should be fools

fields, without sowing any part twice over.
With a saving ol from 10 to 15 percent. in
labor, it will, with ease for two horses, plaut
i from 10 to 12 acres per day of wheat, oats,
barley, and other small graius j arid with one
man and horse, it will readily plant t'rom 15 to
20 acres por day ot Indian corn, beans, peas,
rutabagas, <fcc.
It will save from 2 to 3 pecks ot seed per
acre, and yield from 15 to 20 per cent, more
than the broad cast seeding, by distributing
the grain uniformly at any desired depth, and
leaving a ridge of earth between the rows.
The roots of the young plant are protected
during the winter by the action of the frost
and rain mouldering the earth upon them, in
stead of being thrown cut and exposed as in
broad cast. On this account the stalk is
stronger and less subject to mildew, and is not
so liable to injury by the fly.
The farmer is frequently prevented by rain
from harrowing in his grain after it is sown,
which harrowing is needless in seeding with
this machine as it completes the work at once.

Pennock Drill I got from you last summer,
worked to my entire satisfaction, in rough and
smooth ground. Each tube and hopper work
ing separate and independent ot each other, is
a decided advantage, by escaping rocks, roots,
sowing point rows, &c., and from the appear
ance of my crop at this time, there will be a
better yield to the acre than on what I sowed
broad-cast, besides a saving of one halt bushel
of seed to the acre. 1 believe it is one ot the
most profitable agricultural implements in use
by the farming community.
