A Faw Matters for the Attention of Voters.
The citizens of Lehighton will do
well to elect Dr. J. G. Zern burgess of
Ibis town. The next year many Im
provements are to be made; streets are
to tie graded, a hose house Is to be
built, better street illumination Is to
be considered for all parts of the town,
new streets may be opened and many
other things ot Importance will come
up that will requiro careful attention.
It Is well then that the burgess should
be a man of intelligence and experience
that these improvements -can be fur.

For town councllmen. The First
Ward have placed before the voters
auch honest men as Ezra Newhart,
Qodfrey Frantz and Jacob Biblghaus.
These men are pledged to all the Inter
ests of Leulghton with no special priv
ileges and with no ax to grind. The
voters should elect thoni, they are
worthy. All are owners of property
and have a long residence. For school
directors, Klchard Koous and John
Hottensteln. Both will be elected.
Iu the Second Ward Johu Ouert and
O. A. Clauss have been nominated for
echool directors. We believe that 11
elected In this Republican ward, that

In the Third Ward Joseph Ihaman Is
the candidate for councilman. His
lection Is assured. For school direc
tors M. O. Bryan and Ed Schmidt ure
on the ticket and although theteisa
little scheme on foot to knock out Mr.
Schmidt, he will nevertheless be elect
ed and some days the fellows who are

In the Second Ward the Democrats
have no candidate for cotiucilman. Mr.
Trexler having refused to stand fori

but he is telling his friends not to vote
for him. M. (J. Kuntz is the only can
didate and he will be elected. Marvin
is a llrst-class young man and be will
make a good public olllcial.
In the First Ward only Is there any
kind of a tight and that is for council
man. Ben Kuntz is a candidate against

minds of our people. Not a single one
of our many accusations were ever de
nied. We understand that he is now
making bis deals to secure his own

ial. John Seaboldt and J. L. Gable
dont pray by Kuntz, so they wUI not
be in it. Sammy Gilham is to be made
secretary for his fealty to the cause,

the office to a young Democrat. For
market clerk, we understand, William
Watson, ot the Press, is slated. He
stuck to Kuntz and of course Kuntz
must stand by him and help him out,
Supervisor! some say. that this may go

ward, providing he wants it Many may
wonder at this, but Ben is sly enough
to keep on the good side of a fellow
with"Youu's" Staunch (?) Democracy.
For borough police there is quite a
rub. Ed liawortb, who has been doing
all the dirty work for several years
past for fifty cents a day aud night, is
to be removed because he couldn't
strain his conscience to vote for Kuntz
for Assembly, Before that Ed was
alright and one of the formei's pets.
II can't use him now hiuI must make
room for some one more worthy of
Ben's Influence. Somo say that it will
go to Ben Harp, though it is hard to
tell. But what If Kuntz is defeated?
Oh, well, that will spoil the whole game,
but Ben is pulling for all he is worth.
He made a speech at the railroad meet
ing several weeks ago, and Sammy
thinks that this made blm a point or
two stronger. Then, too, he has sud
denly championed the new court house
for Lekigbtou, and this should bring
blm some support. It takes some
brains to figure out these schemes, and
to make the people forget that Ben is
squealer, but it is doubtful whether
they will vote for him. Since the ex
posure ot bis many tricks be has fulleu
off In popular esteem, and it looks very
much as it the First Ward people
would severely rebuke bin again. We
ay sincerely that he Is not the mau
fer this ottice, and If by chance, be
hould be elected It will be the regret

Arrested for Stealing,
Alex Rnrohack and Thomas Jones,
