The affair proved interesting,
The Buffalonian Odd Fellows aro terr
ously agaltating the question of erecting an
Odd Fellows temple at a cost of $75,000 or
more. The National Odd Follow says such
a building In the city would be worth 0,000
members to the brotherhood,
In Germany many Masonic temples aro
built In the outskirts of cities, and are stir
roundo 1 by beautiful grounds. During the
year many cntcrtanmcnts of different kinds
d, and this opinion was based upon the
facts that the party was rent by factions,
the party organ in open revolt and the
county full of disappointed, defeated
candidates swearing vengeance on the
whole ticket. Tho Demociatlc County
Committee met on tho evening of the con
vention and elected Michael Cassidy, Esq.,
Chairman, and he accepted, this was a
fortunate thing for the party. No county
chairman In this county ever entered a
campaign with greater difficulties to sur
mount, and no county chairman ever ac-
ciultted himself better than he did. Chair
man Cassldy knew bow to go about gain
ing a victory when eyery one was predict
ing defeat. lie displayed good diplomacy
In spending the first three weeks quietly
yislttng the leaders of the party, and as he
left, each dropped Into line, until mostly
all the leaders were working In harmony
with the Cbalrmau. From that time to
the end of the campaign be was aggres
sive, untlrelng, actively and continuously
at work, and we haye no hesitation In say
ing that to him more than to any other
man is due the credit for tho Democratic
victory in Carbon county. The defeat of
one candidate on the ticket Is no fault of
his. He did his duty tp all the candidates.
The defeat of ifr. Semmel was caused by the
treachery of some and the spleen and spite
ot others who baye been highly honored
by the party Iu this couuty. Michael
Cassldy Is a safe, clean aud honest leader,
who has earntd the respect and gratitude
of the Democracy of Caibon county.
In Alabama there are 4S3 clergymen who
aro members of the Masonic fraternity.
Tho largest Rebekah lodge in the world
Is supposed to be Social Lodge, No. 10, of
Manchester, N. II. It has oyer 700 mem
ber, and Is striving hard to reach 1,000
this year.

The Philadelphia and Reading Company
Is fitting up nine of Its passenger locomo
tlves In Reading with the steam apparatus
for heating passenger cars. They aro to be
used on the Bound Brook division, where
the passenger coaches are now being fitted
up with pipes.
A sensible reform which has been Inau
gurated by a majority of the leading East
ern railroad companies has at last spread to
Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia and Read
lng Railroad Company is erasing tho words
"Ladles" and " Gentlemen" on the doors
of all Its stations and changing the lnscrip
lions to "Jomon" and "Men."
Threa wrecks occurd Tuesday night
the Lehigh Valley railroad. The first was
at Lucy Furnace station by a broken axle
that threw several cars down into a pond
there and also blocked tbo tracks there for

and wrecking ten coal cars. The third

licans but defeats women's suffrage.
John Buchanan Is the new Democratic
Goyernor of Tennessee by at least 50,000
majority.
Iowa looks Republican, though latest
advises say that tho Democrats are still
hopeful, having made heavy gains through.

Humphrey Is the new RcDubllcan Got-
ernor of Kansas by 10,000 majority.
California stands firm In the Republican
column and elects a solid state ticket.
New Hampshire shows large Democratic
