Robert Barbour, the Paterson mil
lionaire and head of the Barbour Linen

Saturday and completed negotiations
for the establishment In that city of a

Friday afternoon, after a four days'
trial, Charles Orion Stroh, a member of
the bar, Justice of the Peace and also
secretary of tho Borough Council of
Mauch Chunk, was found guilty of cm
bezzling tho funds of tho borough by
systematic fraudulent entries of amounts
eceived as market revenue. He pocket
ed from five to ten dollars every week
luring a period of twenty months. The
court granted a rule, by which tho rea
sons for giving him a new trial will bo
argued at the next (September) term of
court.
Dennis O'Connor, a boss over a
gang of Italians employed ntthe Dutch
town Stripplngs, nine miles from Hazlo-
lon, Friday struck Michael Bostute on
the head with a shovel for refusing to
obey nn order. The blow crushed In

This section has recently been vis

newspaper lu Illinois recently
brought suit against forty-three men
who would not pay their subscilptlon
and obtained a judgment lu each case
for the full amount of the claims. Of
these twenty-eight made affidavit that
they owned no properly In excess of
what the law allowed them, thus pre
venting an attachment. Then, under
tho new law of Congress making the
taking of a newspaper from a post-oflice
without paying for It, theft, they wore
nncsted for petit larceny and bound
over in the sum of $300 each. All but
six gave bail, and the others went to
jail.

It has been rumored on the streets of
Mauch Chunk that all tho Lehigh Valley
