of Scranton, they were attcked by two
masked robbers a sliort distance from
the mine. The robbers drew revolvers
nnd fired, slightly wounding Captain
Carllng. Mr. Bissell returned the fire,
and the robbers fled to the woods. A
reward of M00 is offered for their ar
rest. The annual Commencement of
Muhlenberg Collego will take place on
Thursday the 28th Inst. The exercises
will consist of orations by the studunts
of tho Junior and senior classes, and the
Conferring of Degrees on the graduates,

At about 11 o'clock on Tuesday
night, fire was discovered in the resi
dence and barn of Mr. Tllghuian W.
Stelgerwalt, of East f'enn township,
both of which buildings were burned

family barely escaping with their lives.
From what we learn there seems to bo
no doubt but that this fire was the work
of an Incendiary. Mr. S., will be a
heavy loser by .the fire, notwithstanding

and brothers, a grandchild and an aged
