their exhausted energies.
Hon. Carl Schurz addressed an im
mense oudleuco In Clucinnattl, Monday
evening, in opposition to halation of
tho currency. He denied, that tie was
committed, or was desirous of commit
ting tlio Independent voters of tho
country, in advance, to either party In
the Presidential contest of 1870. He
expressed the fear that the financial
question would bo used as a now agen
cy to revive the curso of sectional war
fare lu our politics, and said that he
still stood upon the platform ndopted
by tho Democratic National Conven
tion at Baltimore, which demanded a
speedy return to specio payments. Af
ter describiiii; the evils which must How

currency, and arguing lu favor' of a
specie basis, ho appealed to his hear
ers to vote against inflation at the coni
