Mooro township, Northampton county,
paid a visit to St. John's church on
Sunday last. They arrived at 10 o'

Gap park. The Lehigh Gap Sunday
School will return tho visit in tho latter
part of August.
Cherries aro about over. Tho late
rainy season caused them to rot.
The farmers aro dono with their grain
harvest, but have somo hay making yet
to do.
Apples seem to grow nicely, and will,
from present Indications, be lan abun
dant crop.

Caving in of a Conl Jllnc.
Last Saturday, between 0 and 10 r.
m., an oxtensivo cavo occurred In tho
Enttrprlso collery, north WHIres-Barro.
Tho miners discovered signs of the com
ing cave and mado their escape, but had
been out a fow minutes only when
the crash came. In their hurrythey left
twenty-fivo mules behind, but went back
after them when thoground ceased set
ting. They had succeeded in rescuing
all, hut another cavo occurred, and cut
them off from tlio main opening, and
they had to mako their exit through the
safety opening. The next morning, tho
Engineer, Henry Carey, entered tho
mine with a lighted lamp, whenjha.gas,
which had been driven Into that part by
the cave exploded, bruising him severe
ly. Tlio surfaco shows a number of
cracks or fissures, but none of tho
houses, of which a' .number aro'.bui'lt
over tho mine, are perceptibly injured.
An area of eight or ten acres Is included
In the cave, but It has all settled evenly,
and tho damage, outside, ,1s very slight.
Inside of the initio It is quite serious,
and will entail a heavy loss upon the
operators. Tho lowest vein worked is
twelve feet thick, and about 330 feet
from tho surface. Tho upper ouo is a
nino feet vein, and has been worked,
but the middle vein Is five feet thick,
and has never beon worked, It-cau'not
yet bo told whether this latter vein can
bo worked hereafter.

Tho Catbonlron AVorks aro moving
slowly along, at a' little better than half
their capacity. Nearly all tho men aro
in employment, though at wages much
reduced! ,rTho "J'good tlmo coming,"
has, verily, been a long tlmo on tho
way, and yet wo do not ovsn catch a
dim glimpso of It-in tho distant luturo.
Would that it wcro here. Rumors of
"hotter times" aro lifo. Thus far, how
over, wo, have had to bo content 'with
mero rumors and wish for tho "better
times." Wo confidingly hopo that
September will witness their advent.
Our Public Schools closed a successful
term on Friday last. Miss Jones, teach
er of tho Primary School, returned to
her homo at Mluersvlllo, Schuylkill Co.,
on Saturday, In compauy with Miss
Mollle, her sister, who had been spend
ing a wcok of vacation iu our romantic
little village.
Mr. J. M. Bauruan, son of Hon. D.
Baumau, lias returned after a second
year at Fort Edward Institute, to spend
his vacation at home. Ho returns, wo
understand, to finish his third year.
