The death of Iho Siamese twins in
Mount Altry, near Salisbury, ffiU.,
on the 17lh of this month, ended one
of the most remarkable of Natural phe
nomena, 'ihiy camo to this country
In 1820, when they were 18 years old,
having previously been shown In Eu

SUm, and tlirir parents lived by fishing.
None of their filteen brother and uls
ters weto deformed, although many of
them wire twins. They made the tour
of the Unlit d States, and, excepting
Tom Thumb, were tlio treated objects
of uoiideiiuent to the people. Nor
was the curiosity concerning them con
fined to gaping rurallsts. To many
men of science thuy were tLu first
specimens ot Joined and lUitig human
beings. Tho fleshy ligature which
Jinked them was about a foot In length,
two Inches broad and four thick, and
tlliougli it ran a largo artery and many
veins, making their circulation identi
cal. Tktlr breathing, too, was simul
taneous ivlien they wero asleep. They
wero not so entirely one, however, but
that each liad an entirely separate ex.
Istence. Their senses were totally din
connected. Ouo could not feel a hurt
Indicted on Iho other, tho ligature being
tho only part lu which they were sensi
tive lu common. Much scientific dls
cussiou arose concerning them, mainly
bimlngupou the quettlon of posible
separation. The details of their death
nro meagre. Chan, died first, and a
few mlnutea afterward Eug, who had
for a lew dayg been well, became, de
lirious, and raved wildly. ThU nay
havo resulted from tlio uientaUhoclc
and apprehension ag to his own fate;
but more likely It was the result of a
cessntlonof blood chculallou between
him and' his brother. A stupor fol.
