Yours, &c.,
At a meeting of the members of the Fourth
Class of Midshipman of the U. S. Naval Acade

April 28, 1865, the following resolutions were
adopted.—
Whereas—lt has pleased the Almighty, in his
merciful dispensation, to remove from our midst
by a premature and UN looked for death, our late
honored and beloved classmate—Midshipman
J. lion.s.ca EATON, be it
Resolved, That we, the members of the Fourth
class, while bowing to the inscrutable will, and
mysterious dispensation of the Almighty, do
earnestly and sorrowfully deplore the sad event
which has hastened away one whom we ever
held in the greatest esteem, and in whom were
centred the highest hopes of many and dear
friends. While in his private character, be ex
hibited the kindliest and most generous traits,
he won from all the greatest love and respect.
Resolved, That to the afflicted parents and
relatives of our lamented classmate, we tender
our deep and heartfelt sympathy; but can offer
no better consolation than the sincere hope, that
lid has received what his actions on earth mer
ited.
Resolved, That while we now wear the badge
of mourning, for our late honored and beloved
Chief 'Magistrate, we also make it symbolical of
our sorrow for our lamented classmate.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be
forwarded to his afflicted . parents, and be pub
lished in the New York Roston, Philadelphia
and Washington journals.
The class also passed a resolution that each
midshipman should have the above resolutions
printed in a paper in their respective places
or residence.
The Lackawanna Register, pub
lished at Scranton, Pa., has been en

is now one or the handsomest and best
country papers in the State.

AMERICAN WATCH

They are designated only to sell, and the buyer is the
party most thoroughly sold. Those who have kept
`'aneres," "'spines" and "Swiss levers" in professed
repair for a few years will appreciate the truth of our
statement.
THE PLAN OF THE AMERICAN WATCH
Instead of being made of several hundred little
pieces, screwed together, the body of the American
Watch is formed of SOLID PLATES. No jar inter
feres with the harmony of its working, and no sudden
shock can throw its machinery out of gear. In riding
or any business pursuit, it is all held together as firm
ly as a single piece of metal. It is jest what all ma

ECONOMICAL.
We not only Bemire CHEAPNESS by our system,
but QUALITY. We do not pretend that our Watch
can be bought for lota money than the foreign make
believes, but that for its real value it is told for one
hn lf the price.
OUR SOLDIER'S WATCH (named Win. Enemy) in
what its name indicates—Solid, Substantial, and al
ways Rellable—warranted to stand 'any amount of
Marching, Riding or Fighting.
OUR NEXT HIGHER QUALITY OP WATCH
(named P. S. Bartlett) is aimilnr in size and general
appearance, but has more jewels, and ft more elabor
ate finish.
OUR LADIES' WATCH, recently brought out, is
put up In a great variety eifpati erns , many of them of
raro beauty and workmanship, Is quite small, bat
worionted to keep Units.
OUR YOUNG GENTLEMAN'S WATCH is neat, but
not large, and gist the thing for the pockets of Young
Amee ice.
THE PROOF of the merits of our watch may be
toned in the fact that we now employ over seven hun
kred workmen in our factories, and that we are still
unable to supply the constantly increasing demand.
OUR THREE QUARTER PLATE WATCH la thinner
and lighter than the others we have described. Its
line chronometer balance is delicately adjusted to cor
rect the variation caused by changes of temperature.
These watches are the fra lin of the latest experiments
in chronometry, and are made by our best wo, kitten,
in a separate department ef our factory. For the fin
est timekeeping qualities they challenge comparison
with the best works 01 the most famous English and
Swiss makers.
