TOLLS ON THE READING RAILROAD. —The case of Timothy Boyle vs. the Reading Railroad Company, was decid ed on Wednesday last, by Justice Strong, of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, in equity. This was an application for an injunction to restrain the Reading Rail road Company from charging for freight and transportation more than the maxi mum sum (four cents a mile for freight, and two cents a mile for passengers) al lowed by their act of incorporation. The case was argued some time ago. Judge Strong, in delivering the opinion, said the charter of the company granted two powers—the first being that of a railroad company, and the other that of a trans portation company. Under the first power they might allow the use of their road to others .for the conveyance of freight and passengers. tinder the sec ond they were allowed themselves to be what are commonly Itnown as carriers. He decided that the word tolls, used in the act of AsseMbly, fixing a - maximum price, did not apply to transportation by the company itself; but only to eases where their road was used by other car riers. The injunction was refused, and the complainant's hill dismissed. SPLENDID JEWELRY.A MIDST GIVEN AWAY--In our advertising columns to-day will hi found the announcement of Messrs. After the matters are fully developed the ,:public will no doubt see that such is the feet. In the mean time it is but just to the parties implicated that the public should suspend forming an opinion.
