=MS EMISITMI43, I=l A SUBSTITUTE BROKER SOLD.—The employees and habitues of the Pro vost Marshal's office, says the Troy WiLig, were considerably amused a day or two since at the manner in w hi c h a substitute broker was victim ized by his intended victim. Broker became acquainted with a country man who has some notion about en listment. "Oh, you're my man—l can pocket $2OO or $3OO on you," muttered the joyous broker, at the same time inviting Greeny to "tak'e a walk and see the town." Greeny accepted, and off the two started. They imbibed freely, in Mot, very freely. Broker was anxious to have Groony drink often, while he was trying to keep sober. Broker bad plenty of money and would not per mit "hisfriend from the country" to spend a dime. Finally, Broker be came weak in the knees, while Green y was growing sober. .Result: Greeny"marched Mr. Broker to the marshal's office, had him examined, was, accepted and sworn in as a sub stitute I Greeny pocketed the profits, and started for the country.. Mr. Broker is now on Hart's Island, in company with several of . bis victims. Verdict—served him right. A MADMAN.—Quite ' a commotion was created in the office of .colonel Woolley, in . Baltimore on Monday, caused by ,a soldier named Johnson, a member of the first Regi ment -Con necticut cavalry. It appears that a bout one year ago, while at Fairfax Court House, he was bitten by a dog suffering from hydrophobia, but by skilful treatment he was in a few weeks thought cured. Yesterday Johnson was arrested by a guard on the street, charged with being drunk. He was taken to the military head quarters, and while in .a room occu pied by the clerks he began foaming at the mouth, and uttered sounds re tembling the barking of a dog. The clerks and several officers, who vaca ted the Rlace, and succeeded in lock ing the madman in the room, His paroxysms were frightful to behold, and it was with great difficulty that he con Id be secured. After being lcund, be was removed to the Cam den street Hospital, where he was a gain seized with a fit. During his struggles, a sergeant of the guard was bit on the small finger of the left hand by Johnson, and to prevent serious consequences the finger was immedi ately amputated by the surgeon in attendance at the hospital.
