general turnout,of our citizens. A pro

the returned Volunteers, the Masons, the
American Mechanics, the Perseverance

Veterans through the principal streets of
the town, after which they were regaled
with what is said to have been a splendid
feast, and some speech-making, in the
Court House. Not being of the' privileg

House, and consequently unable to speak
further of the proceedings there save what
we have from hearsay, and what appears
in the Courier. We paraded up to the
'portals of the Court House and there
were cut off. AS 'usual the Opposition
made all the political capital of the affair

AN EVIL THAT NEEDS REMEDYING.
—The State will not permit its citizens to
be carried off to make up the quota of
other states ; and if the principle is good
in regard to . the State we do not see wfiy
should'oOt also lho)d good in regard to
counties, and even
. loWnships. As it is
at present, the large
. 6ities, by the heavy
„hayrides they are enabled to offer, take
'thousand's of recruits from the rural dis.
tricth which properly Wong to us. The
Railroad Companies, the Irstirarice . Corn
panies, the wholesale Merchants and_all
heavy busiOss men generally dealing
with the country, make their money fr.im
their trade with the interior, but having
their head quarters in the cities, make
their subscriptions there for bounties, and
•tbus the cities are enabled-to - offer - botinr
ties with which it is impossible for us to
compete. If this wards to continue there
should be some legislation on the subject,
either so as to compel credit where the
recruit belongs, or to equalize the boun
ties offered. Dozens of men from Leba.
non county have lately enlisted in Phila.
;delphia, 'just because the bounties offered
there are larger, than those we can offer
here. it, is not . right, and the matter
might easi'ybe remedied.
Abolitionists, take_ notice : you

and besides proving your patriotism, you
‘vill get a bounty of $602 , and your

to enlist, if they are Copmbeads and
"grand
they would be dangerous in the
grand bnipn Army, they:might betray
the Federal forces into the 'hands of the
'Crien;y, they , are therefore - Pot,, wanted

this a holy war, prayed for its projorigh
tion, you have been in favor of' waging it
until the last man was killed and the last
dollar expended, now ao, do not be the
last man, you have just as good a right to
die first as some of your neightiors.. Be
sides this war is just carried onto suit
you, now pitch in, some of you who have
been making war speeches, and urged
others to go, should now set the example
and go yourselves; example is better than
precept. The most loyal should go first,
after they are all . exhausted, the traitors
can agree to quit. If all the loyal men
who supported Curtin last fall would turn
out they ought to be able to :this)) the re,
