• A DOG PUNISHING A. DOG.-Dr.
Abel, in one of his lectures, relating
a sery striking anecdote of a New
foundland dog in Cork. This' dog
was. of a noble generous disposition,
and when he left his master's house
was often assailed by a number of lit
tle noisy dogs.in, the street. He us
ually passed > them in apparent un
concern, as if they were beneath his
_notice. But one little cur was, par
ticularly tionblesome, and at' length
carried his petulance so far as to bite
the Newfoundland dog in the back of
tholoot. This proved to be a stop in
wanton abuse amlinsult beyond what
was to be: atiently endured, and be
-instantly turned round, ran after the
offender and seized him by the skin
of the bia. In this way ho carried
'him in his month to the quay; and
holding Winsome time over the wa
ter, atlength, dropped him into.
He did not seem, however, to design
that the culprit should e punished
capitally, and he waited a little while,
till the poor animal, who was unused
to that element, was notr only well:
